Afghanistan report won't be released before election

A report detailing the cost of Canada's mission in Afghanistan will not be ready for release before the federal election next Tuesday.

Parliamentary budget officer Kevin Page was tasked with tallying the cost of the Afghan war since it began six years ago.

All party leaders had agreed to allow the release of the report, despite concerns it could sway how Canadians cast their ballots on Oct. 14.

But Page has told CBC News the report is not yet ready and it will not be released before the election.

Tonight he even invoked his mom's fears about the economy, because people complained today he STILL has no economic plan, and doesn't care.

Isn't that nice. But who doesn't? It's more impressive to care for people who aren't in your family. Maybe he was throwing a little "honor thy mother and father" out for his religious supporters.

His Noah's Ark reference seemed a little mis-directed to me. It made me think about "seven fat years and seven lean years" and his squandering of the surplus. We could sure use that, now that we are heading for lean years. It was awfully imprudent to blow that on unneeded tax cuts.

Nobody was clamouring for any tax cuts. They weren't needed. Yet now, all that money is gone, right when we need it most.
