OTTAWA–Prime Minister Stephen Harper will deliver a televised address to the nation tonight.

Officials confirm Harper has asked the television networks to let him appear at 7 PM.

Meanwhile, there were signs this morning the Liberals may be willing to entertain other options besides defeating the government and replacing it with a coalition.

Arriving to the weekly caucus meeting Liberal MP Keith Martin said it was not too late for Harper to reach across the aisle and work with them.

But Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay said it would be too difficult to negotiate with Harper at this point.

2. My bet is he is going to try and explain how proroguing Parliament is ...
the patriotic thing to do to 'stop an undemocratic coup attempt', the same 'coup attempt' he was 'patriotically' attempting to do in 2004.

3. Since the main objection seems to be against Dion as P.M....why
don't spokespersons for the coalition, and even Dion himself, go on TV and make it clear that Dion will only be P.M for a couple of months till a new leader is elected? Most of the objections I have heard voiced in the man-in-the-street interviews have been with regards to Dion. People seem to think he will be permanent.

4. Shocking that the media would oblige

After the way he has shunned them for years. Let's hope the opposition/coalition gets their chance too.

And even if he does apologize, it isn't enough. Someone needs to be held accountable here - I say Harper and Flaherty, but would settle for Harper alone.

5. I hope the CBC follows with "The Fifth Estate"
Which has fresh new evidence of Mulroney's crookedness in the Airbus scandal. Harper's speech would be a good lead-in to that program.

6. Ten minutes, prerecorded, says CBC.
I don't know if that matters, but there you go.
