Helena Guergis apologizes for PEI airport meltdown
A junior Harper cabinet minister has taken the unusual step of issuing a statement today to apologize for her behaviour at the Charlottetown airport last week.
...
One Liberal MP from PEI was unimpressed. "If the assessment is accurate - and people I have spoken to claim it is - it is unbelievable that a cabinet minister would act in such a fashion and belittle people who were just doing their job," Wayne Easter told The Globe.

Ms. Guergis is no stranger to controversy of late. She is married to former Alberta Tory MP Rahim Jaffer, who is facing charges of cocaine possession and drunk driving. His situation is expected to be resolved through a plea bargain next month.

Maybe she got into Rahim's liquor cabinet.

1. Another politican under stress.
You'd think they'd have enough self-control not to do this kind of thing in public at least.

2. Here's the CBC report (Globe and Mail let her off easy)
During pre-boarding screening, the letter said, the Ontario MP refused to remove her footwear, which set off the alarm as she walked through the metal detector.

When Guergis was asked again to take off her footwear, she allegedly "slammed her boots into the bin provided," and said, 'Happy f--king birthday to me. I guess I'm stuck in this hellhole.'"

The letter said then, "as the footwear cleared the X-ray conveyor then allegedly shouted at her aide to 'Get those for me. I'm not walking around here in sock feet.'"

When an Air Canada employee reminded her that passengers are expected to be at the airport two hours before departure, Guergis allegedly shouted, "I don't need to be lectured about flight time by you. I've been down here working my ass off for you people."

3. I agree re the G & M article...
It was, imo, quite misleading as to how outrageous her behavior really was. I read the CBC article last night and, wow, she went way over the line regardless of what 'stresses' she was under. The average Canadian would have been detained at the very least and, in Vancouver, could have been tasered as was the poor man who was killed for behavior not unlike this woman, imo.

4. I agree with every point
The Globe was lax in their reporting. If you or I pulled this off, we would very likely be thrown in jail. We certainly wouldn't be allowed on our flight.
