$1,000 doorbell, $975 plants
Ottawa — The Globe and Mail Published on Wednesday, Mar. 10, 2010 1:34PM EST Last updated on Wednesday, Mar. 10, 2010 2:48PM EST
Somewhere in a federal building, there are two plants that cost taxpayers $975 each, a $1,000 doorbell and six pot lights installed at a cost of $5,300.

Faced with this embarrassing revelation in La Presse today, Public Works Minister Rona Ambrose ordered a departmental review of Ottawa's real-estate management process.

Hey, it's Rona again.

1. Every penny counts, I wish I had that extra cash...

Yes, in good times the government should be watching every penny spent, in bad times it is absolutely necessary. Spending that kind of money on essentially decorations is not right.

You want real waste? It is appalling to me the lack of concern regarding the whole e-health scandal. In what other nation could you image so many multiple millions of dollars pissed away without any accountability?!?!? We are talking millions upon multiple millions; what is there to show for this wasted money? A couple of resinations? Wow, that must really worry the next person who looks to burn away so much money. Think of what could have been done with that amount of money for education, work programs, oh, and EVEN healthcare (as it was intended).

In the U.S, or anywhere in Europe heads would roll under such a waste of tax payers money. And this was provincial funding, so the source of funding was a much smaller base. I haven't heard a peep about this of late and it is a disturbing trend.

I am not sure how to define fiscal responsibility, but I can certainly define what it isn't...

4. Discourse noted...

I am as bi-partisan as they come, I criticize all and I call it as I see it. I don't even vote, but if I did I wouldn't vote for either Conservatives or Liberals at the federal level, I would prefer a change in federal politics as I think other parties deserve a chance to prove they can lead this nation (not just rule it). As far as I can see, waste come in both colours of red and blue.

Glad that I understand your discourse now though. I didn't realize the intent of your post.
