Harper's Party
Just got whacked.

It may be all downhill from here. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

The Parliament of Canada has spoken. Harper refuses to accept it.

2. The Defeat
Is more than the defeat of a single issue. Harper made this an issue of his government. The opposition stood together and deflected the issue. If it is not working then let's make changes to improve it.

Harper's intransigence put his stamp on it. He lost.

Now there will be issue after issue, that the opposition will pound the Conservatives about. They will be doing all they can to deflect the arrows.

Look next for declines in the polls for the Conservatives and more Canadians speaking out against the Harper policies. Don't forget they have been in power for four and three quarter years and their policies and methods have made many enemies.

3. I sure hope you are right...

They have been declining in the polls and they were taken in the summer when the Cons assumed Canadians weren't paying attention to what they were doing so you may well be right but I am not holding my breath just yet, lol.

I know I have a few letters to the editor ready to go when an election is called on the "Bush redux that is the Harper government" subject.

4. It will be spun as a Harper victory
Motivating the gun folks to donate money and all that.

But a loss is a loss, and for Harper this was a loss. Currently, Harper doesn't have momentum on his side. This has to be energizing for Ignattieff, and to a lesser extent Layton. It may also energize the average urban voter, who must be getting tired of being demonized by the "rural elites".

6. His response to losing a democratic vote was unacceptable
Fucking loser. I hope people see him for what he is now.

7. Is there any way to determine...
...whether the majority in every single riding represented by a Conservative MP is in favour of killing the LGR?

If there's even one where the majority is opposed, the whole listen-to-your-constituents stance Harper's been maintaining would lose all credibility.
