1. Happily, this was a stumble by Harper
Ignatieff had already indicated in the morning Globe that he was good with a one-on-one, and when Harper was asked about it, he stumbled into agreement.

You could tell Harper hadn't thought it through. In fact, he has created a campaign risk for himself where he didn't need to. Looks good on him.

With this development, and the NDP candidate in London stepping down to support strategic voting, I think the game changed quite a bit today in favour of defeating Harper.

I couldn't be more pleased.

2. Isn't the first rule of campaigning to never take risks when you're ahead?
He's so desperate for a majority that he's willing to risk it all. Iggy campaign headquarters probably burst out cheering when they heard the news.

3. Quite true
The proper political answer for him was to refuse such a notion because it would be undemocratic to exclude other party leaders, it isn't the Canadian way, etc.

Instead, he almost flippantly did his macho act and thereby created a risk for himself he really didn't need. I sense bad staff work is part of his problem.

4. Oh Joy
That's an hour of my life I won't be wasting. I turn the tv off when either of those jackasses comes on. My stomach couldn't take both of them at the same time. Would it be too much to ask for a well aimed thunderbolt or two?

5. The CBC was making nice hay of it this morning
While I don't favour exclusion from debates, I think that if the Liberals and Conservatives wanted to stage their own event, the media should certainly cover it! ;)
