Kim Campbell on Bill Maher's show, July 30
Real Time with Bill Maher starts its next season tonight on HBO -- can you get HBO up north?

Anyway, Kim Campbell's going to be one of the guests. I know she was a PC who served as prime minister for a very short time in the early 90's. But that's about it. What can you tell me about her?

4. thanks
I really should go look these things up myself before I just come in here and post, trying to curry favor with the Canadians for showing a grade-school level knowledge of their history. :)

It sounds like Campbell was more of the Progressive type than the Conservative type.

Coined the phrase that elections were not the time to talk about serious policy, I have paraphrased the words here.

6. I've seen her on Politically Incorrect a couple of times.
Well informed and well spoken. She sure never displayed that while she was our PM.

7. She's actually rather witty.
Few political skills, but entertaining enough.

The Club of Madrid

The Club of Madrid is an organization dedicated to strengthening democracy around the world by drawing on the unique experience and resources of former heads of state and government of democratic nations. Working in partnership with other organizations and governments that share its democracy-promoting goals, the Club of Madrid provides strategic support and technical advice to countries seeking to consolidate their democracies and those making the first step toward a democratic form of government.

This is how democracy, freedom and all that blah is REALLY promoted in the world.

Here is a list of the individual members: http://www.clubmadrid.org/cmadrid/index.php?id=36
Bill Clinton's one of them -- he's the only former US head of govt/state who is. Gorbachev is a member, and Patricio Aylwin of Chile. Thatcher is not. (I don't know why Jimmy Carter and Nelson Mandela, for instance, aren't, but it may be a matter of over-commitment.) Members have to not only apply, but be unanimously approved. ;)

I'm sure this is she'll be talking about this, so it's worth checking around the site a bit first.

Thanks for the heads up!

9. She's the one that ran the nasty ad against Chretien isn't she?
The one that ran in slow mo that showed his stroke damage? And that was it for her.
