Tory insiders question party leadership: report

It was just a few months ago that an energized Conservative Leader Stephen Harper emerged from a policy convention with the backing of 84 per cent of his party members.

Today, he faces falling poll numbers despite a sponsorship scandal tainting the Paul Martin Liberals -- and some within his own ranks are asking why.

One key Conservative organizer, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Globe and Mail that people within the party are beginning to talk about replacing their leader.

Another organizer, who also asked to remain anonymous, told The Globe that dissatisfaction with Harper expanded with that vote, "and a lot of people in the party of tired of waiting."

(I was pretty sure this would happen after Harper flubbed the opportunity to take down the Liberals on the non-confidence vote and was absolutely positive after the Grewal debacle.)

are turning in favor of the liberals again. They are by no means the best govt Canada has ever seen, far from it, but they are a sight better than anything the conservatives can come up with at this point.

Spazito, do you think Martin/liberals will stick to their guns regarding the weaponization of space? It seems they are listening to the public on that one.

minority one, he could well have signed on to MDS given the things he said prior to the election. He was receptive to it then but, with a minority government he couldn't afford to risk supporting it as it could have caused his government to fall.

I don't trust Martin on some issues, this being one of them, and was VERY pleased he was only able to cobble together a minority government. The decision is made now, so I don't see a Liberal government overturning it, thank goodness.
