Rant: Wow, Harper absolutely thinks he is going to be the next PM
I am listening to a speech he is giving and he is saying "when I become PM" and "my rule as the next PM will be to...". He wants to "prosecute the liberal party" and is saying "nobody has been held accountable in the sponsorship scandal". What about the people and corporations being sued by the government Stephen, what about the people being investigated by the RCMP?

He actually said "i will ban all corporate and union donations to political federal parties". A conservative not accepting corporate donations? I'll believe that when I see it. And that "restricting union donations" this is sure working well in California.

Are these your only ideas? What about health care, jobs, money for education, child care and the situation up north? We all want an "honest government" but we also want improvements in our daily lives.

If I vote for Harper will he send our troops to Iraq like he said he would before? Would he institute trickle down economics and tax cuts for the rich like he said he wanted to? Will he make the health care system for-profit like the Alberta conservatives and their big American health care company partners say they want to? Will he bend over backward for bush and involve us with the missile shield? Will he overturn same-sex marriage? Will he turn over our border security to the Americans? What will end up being privatized? Will he be able to rule at all in a minority situation where the other three parties disagree with him 100%?

I hope the majority of Canadians are smart enough to realize this and vote progressive not regressive in the next election.

1. Well said Jim!
Although I think we have already handed our border security over to them, not to mention a hellofalot more!

When you have such an unappealing platform, you go with so-called "ethics"...I guess b/c it worked for Bush, Harpey thinks he'll give it another shot.

Lastly, and totally OT, I just want to say hi to everyone here....I took the summer off from the boards (and politics) and it's really great to be back and "see" you all again.

2. We must NEVER forget that he apologized on Fox TV for Canada not joining
the Bush government in the Iraq war....Canadians must be reminded repeatedly that he would have us into any misadventure Bush and his buddies dream up....The Liberals, even with their problems are far better than Harper and his party....By the way, he is well named....All he does is "harp" about everything!

Most Cdns. support war, Harper tells U.S. TV
CTV.ca News Staff

Opposition leader Stephen Harper has told Fox News in the U.S. that most Canadians outside Quebec support the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, despite our government's decision not to take part in the war.

In an interview with the American TV network, Harper said he endorsed the war and said he was speaking "for the silent majority" of Canadians. Only in Quebec, with its "pacifist tradition," are most people opposed to the war, Harper said.

"Outside of Quebec, I believe very strongly the silent majority of Canadians is strongly supportive," the Canadian Alliance leader says.

Tories take lead in opinion poll

CBC News

A new poll conducted after the release of the Gomery report suggests the Conservatives have now pulled ahead of the Liberals in public support.

The poll, conducted by the Strategic Counsel and published Saturday, suggests the Tories have the support of 31 per cent of Canadians, an increase of six percentage points from a similar poll carried out three weeks ago.

In seat-rich Ontario, the two parties leading in the poll each had 35 per cent of support. The NDP now leads in British Columbia, while the Bloc has 57 per cent of the francophone vote.

One can only cry "Fox" so many times before it becomes repetitive.

Ontario is becoming tired. BC has a government to the right and perhaps people need a balance.

On top of all this we have a bean counter who is not leading. Pick your topic. Asymmetrical federation, fighting with Ontario. The wax has melted from his wings.

He has flown too close to the sun.

Martin created this mess. Now he has to reap the harvest. We have to find our way out.

Unfortunately our present leader hasn't realized that the wax has mostly melted from his wings.

practices. I will wait for some of the Angus Reid, etc, polls before trusting this company. Here is an interesting article about their methodology prior to the B.C. Provincial election:

Globe and Mail Poll Called 'Unethical' by Expert

http://www.thetyee.ca/Mediacheck/2005/05/16/GlobePollUnethical/print.html

snip

Professional pollsters take considerable effort not to influence the thinking process of people they are questioning. For this reason, the professional practice is to ask how the respondent intends to vote before saying anything that might influence that decision. Pollsters generally ask about voting intent within the first three questions.

The Globe’s poll asked 14 questions before inquiring how respondents planned to vote.

“When you ask a whole bunch of questions like these in a row, you are stimulating a thinking process that was not already there,” explained McAllister, a former vice president with Ipsos-Reid and Environics who now heads McAllister Research.

“This sort of questioning is a message-testing technique. It’s a way of testing messages and determining the impact of those messages on voter decisions. It is most definitely not an accepted technique for predicting election results.”

13. Hey Telly, tough game last night!
if the Leafs want to keep pace in the best division in hockey, they are going to have to win games with the Capitals.

It's good to see Sundin back - I always say, I want to beat my opponents when they are at their best, and the Leafs are not their best without Sundin. And just in time for the next Habs-Leafs tilt, this Saturday!

11. LOL, no doubt!
I suspect we may very well end up with another minority Liberal government again come the next election in Feb or March 06.
