1. I was just about to post something about him...
The last guy, Ambassador Cellucci was bad enough, but this guy is even worse....How dare he threaten us with whatever he's hinting at, if Martin doesn't stop telling Bush to live up to the NAFTA agreement and play by the rules....Is it 7 times the panel that settles the disputes (made up of half American and half Canadian members by the way) decided in favour of Canada in the softwood lumber dispute....And still the U.S.A won't comply....

2. LOL, my feelings exactly!
Geez, do they clone these assholes or something? I didn't think they could find someone as bad as Cellucci, guess I was wrong. The only delicious thing about this is that Harper is already looking like the phony he is by trying to backpedal from his bush ass-kissing and it ain't working, rofl.

3. What is it with American diplomats lately?
You'd think they'd know a thing or two about being, er...diplomatic.

5. These aren't diplomats,they're Republican donors.
The real diplomats are probably squirming red faced behind the scenes.

I had hoped we were through with this kind of stupid empty threat when Celucci went away. One can always hope I guess.

13. Ambassador plays down Canada-U.S. feud
OTTAWA — As the U.S. ambassador moves to cool a diplomatic dispute with Prime Minister Paul Martin, a new poll suggests the tiff may have lit a patriotic fire underneath the Liberal party’s election fortunes.

David Wilkins tried today play down the controversy over a speech this week in which he warned Ottawa to tone down anti-American rhetoric or risk hurting cross-border relations.

The White House is upset at Martin for accusing it of lacking a global conscience on climate change and for slamming the fact punishing U.S. duties on softwood lumber have not been removed.

The Conservatives brushed off the significance of an eight-year-old speech by party leader Stephen Harper that referred to Canada as a “welfare state.”

14. Great
It's about damn time someone stands up to Bush & Co. I would love to move to Canada but I've heard it's really hard. I've thought about becoming a dual citizen but not sure how that would work out.

BTW, is there any American-born MPs serving in Parliament?

The majority of MP's are American's.

Although the first PM came from across the pond.

17. There are presently 2 members of parliament who were born in the U.S.A
Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 03:27 PM by glarius
They are Myron Thompson and Diane Ablonczy, both of whom were in the original Reform party (extremely right wing) which morphed into the Canadian Alliance (also extremely right wing) which has become the present Conservative Party of Canada (pretending they're not right wing!)....A former NDP member from British Columbia, Svend Robinson was also born in the U.S.A. I heard him say he came to Canada as a boy of 14....Incidently, he is now running as a candidate again....

There are also M.P.s born in Paraguay, Uganda, Scotland, China and other places......

Funny, I've been thinking of changing my name here.....I was really into that magazine several years ago. It's still a good mag, I just got a bit of political fatigue from it. (all the bad news)

Now I'm more into Mother Earth News, so maybe I'll change it to Mother Earth!

19. White House jab at Martin a calculated move
The Liberals are pouncing with glee on the undiplomatic remarks of U.S. Ambassador David Wilkins. By warning Prime Minister Paul Martin not to make the U.S. an issue in Canada's election campaign, Wilkins has made the U.S. an issue.

But insofar as the Americans follow Canadian politics, they know that it is virtually impossible for Harper to win a Commons majority. That leaves only three realistic choices: a Conservative minority, a Liberal minority or a Liberal majority government.

These days, Canadians say they prefer minority governments, reasoning that they are more responsive to public opinion. Foreign regimes, however, generally prefer it when majority governments rule in countries like Canada — for exactly the opposite reason. Majorities are less responsive to shifts in public mood.

So that's one reason the Americans would be pleased if the Liberals won handily. The other is Martin himself. From the U.S. perspective, it's hard to imagine a Canadian prime minister more acceptable.

It's getting so bad around here that they are stabbing people in the front!(Harper's nightmare)
