Any results local to you in yet?
ITV has just said that Eastleigh (next door to me) has been held by Chris Huhne for the Lib Dems - a relief, since his majority over the Tories was just a nominal 500 or so.

1. The big story in the North East so far is the failure of the Lib Dems to take Durham ...
... which means that they're unlikely to pick up the other seats they were targetting.

It will be interesting to see whether the Tories pick up Tynemouth.

2. Yeah in South Cambs we are as you were
LIbs have been running round all day saying its too close to call, but although Labour was squeezed Lansley got back easily.

3. All the seats here have gone Tory
Given that they all went Tory even in 1997 this isn't really news...

4. North East Derbyshire election results
http://www.ne-derbyshire.gov.uk/council-democracy/councillors-democracy-elections/elections-and-voting/6-may-2010

Natascha ENGEL, Labour Party - 17, 948
Huw William MERRIMAN, Conservative Party - 15, 503
Dr Richard BULL, Liberal Democrat - 10, 947
James Henry BUSH, UK Independence Party (UKIP) - 2, 636

We've gone from being safe Labour to a marginal seat. Looks like Natascha Engel will have to pull her finger out and start working.

5. Crap - I go to bed, and find my new seat and old seat have switched from Lib Dem to Tory
Romsey, which became Romsey and Southampton North, went from a Lib Dem majority of a hundred or so (difficult to be accurate with a boundary change) to a Tory majority of over 4,000 (and let me say now that I expect Caroline Nokes to be a really crap MP - in 2005 her campaigning consisted of photo shoots for The Times and an assumption that Romsey should be naturally Tory).

Winchester, my new seat, fell to a Tory (to whom I have not yet taken a violent dislike, unlike Nokes, so that's the crumb of comfort I'm taking away). He has a majority of 3,000, and it was a swing of 9% from Lib Dem to Tory. Labour got 5.5% of the vote - so just managed to retain their deposit.

6. Fucking awful result here
My wonderful LibDem MP lost to the Tory by 176 fucking votes. Thanks for nothing, anyone who didn't bother to vote.

At least Nicola Blackwood doesn't come across as FAR right. But ugh.

Conservative Nicola Blackwood<1> 23,906 42.3
Liberal Democrat Evan Harris 23,730 42.0

8. Any interesting results from neighbouring constituencies to you lot then?
I've had a grumble about Sheffield Central elsewhere on here, but also of note round where I am is that Labour won back Chesterfield off the Lib Dems.

The Tories chucked a lot of their resources at Penistone & Stocksbridge, but got less of a swing there then here in North East Derbyshire, where they didn't make half as much effort.

9. In Oxford East, Andrew Smith (Labour) beat back a challenge from the LibDems
I still remember him being practically the only Labour gain in the south of England (against a Tory) in 1987.

In Buckingham, John Bercow, the Speaker, easily beat back a challenge from Nigel Farage of UKIP.
