Brown to remain as backbench MP

The former Prime Minister Gordon Brown has confirmed he will not be standing down as an MP in an address to college students in his home constituency.

Mr Brown and wife Sarah were making their first public appearance since leaving Downing Street.

He told the students at Adam Smith College in Kirkcaldy, Fife, that he intended to sit on the backbenches.

After joking that he had considered signing up for courses in communication skills, public relations and media management at the college, where he holds the position of chancellor, Mr Brown revealed he would continue to sit as a backbench MP at Westminster.

If you missed parts of that speeech on radio whatever then listen out for it. He's chilled out fast and become what I'd guess is his normal self. Was a humerous speech which went down well.

But a bit sad that it even was in question. As though nowadays EVERY Labour ex-Prime Minister is expected to instantly resign his seat and jump into a plane and move to the USA to make magabucks promoting religion in politics!

All the best to Gordon; despite his lack of 'media management' skills, he's a decent bloke, and better than most recent PMs, and certainly than Dave the Prat.

apparently he'd previously said he would be leaving politics completely which even I , who had no high opinion of him, thought would be a shame given his experience. Maybe his locals talked him into it ? :shrug:
