George Osborne outlines detail of Ѓ6.2bn spending cuts

Chancellor George Osborne has outlined plans for Ѓ6.2bn in spending cuts, saying "urgent action" was necessary to address the budget deficit.

He said there would be a civil service recruitment freeze, as well as cuts to IT programmes, property and quangos.

But funding for schools, 16-19 year olds' education and Sure Start would be protected.

Chief secretary to the Treasury David Laws also said Child Trust Fund payments would be axed by January.

Cutting university places instead of truly wasteful government projects overseas.
