The Good Friday Agreement
Ulster politics are an issue that I approach with some trepidation as you can imagine but I thought that the UK forum could do with a thread on the matter. I did think of doing another "UK parties" thread on the subject but I'm not so keen on posting the websites of some of the nasties over there on both sides.

I'll simply post the Good Friday Agreement here as I feel that it is the greatest acheivement of Tony Blair's premiership.

However, please try and keep it civil. I don't want things to get like the Israel/Palestine forum down here.

1. It really is Tony Blairs greatest achievement
He used to be a real peacemaker and generally inspiring chap until
he decided like the IRA that weapons and war are a better way to
make peace than Jaw Jaw Jaw. How sad to see him degenerate in to
a thug from a peacemaker.

Funny that, even he knows it was his greatest achievement.

Given the current rate of decline, he'll be writing about his pet
mouse algernon soon enough... what a disappointment.

2. Agree it's his greatest achievement!
Though I would also give lots of credit to the former Northern Ireland Secretary Mo Mowlam, and to the American Senator George Mitchell. And of course to all the Irish parties to the agreement!

3. Hume, Trimble, Adams, Mcginnis, Mandelson..
The number of parties with partial credit is myriad. Likely, as is
true with most things, the people at the top had the least to do
with it, and were life fair, would credit the middle management
with a great coming together and an almost magical healing of
a festering wound.

To all those people who helped to bring peace, may your families
and loved ones lived long and blessed lives. I hope they put more
weapons down every day, as i would love to visit NI some day without
any fear of unionist or IRA thuggishness.
