Just watching Sky news before heading out to work and heard about this and I must say I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

One thing really stood out to me:

"and that those taking the oath of citizenship must abide by the values of tolerance and respect."

Tell me with a government hell bent in supporting an illegal war what kind of tolerance and respect for other cultures do they show?

Or when they play the fear card to bring Aussies into line with their (governments) racist ways, what kind of tolerance and respect are they showing?

Or when both the left and right join together to write discrimination into our constitution against the LGBTIQQ community of Australia, what kind of tolerance and respect are they showing?

Or when Howard says he will never allow civil unions for the LGBTIQQ community (even though polls show the majority of Australian's like this idea) what kind of tolerance and respect is he showing?

Or when a member of the current administration stands before a crowd of people and declares that people conform to our ways or get out, what kind of tolerance and respect is he showing?

Or when they pass laws which puts dissidents in danger of being locked up what kind of tolerance and respect are they showing?

And is this only for those taking the oath of citizenship? What about those born here who do not show the tolerance and respect he claims Australia stands for?

If the government is going to talk the talk then isn't it about time they began to walk the walk and stand by their words and begin showing tolerance and respect?

Why do I get the feeling that Costello is really saying "if you want an intolerant and unjust
prime minister, I can do it as well as Howard and then some."

To hand over authority of the abortion pill to the TGA. As soon as I heard that he'd be voting for the TGA to assume the right of the abortion pill, I knew he'd be doing something like this to try and suck up to the Howard/Clarke faction of the Liberal Party

It just goes to show that he's a vacuous opportunist who will do and say anything if he thinks it will gain him party room votes. I think people will start to take him even less seriously now that he's revealing how opportunistic he is

(Sydney, Australia) A senior Australian cabinet minister has outraged gays and lesbians by suggesting they should give up the fight for same-sex marriage and be content that homosexuality is no longer a crime.

During a gathering of the Sydney Institute, a conservative think tank that holds regular public seminars and panel discussions, Treasurer Peter Costello was questioned by a lesbian couple about his government's refusal to consider either marriage or civil partnerships.

The cabinet minister said gay partners have the right to access each other's pensions and that was about as far as the government was prepared to go.

He then said that "I think we do recognize the rights of gay and lesbian people in Australia. We do not criminalize conduct or behavior."

So this jerk off speaks of Australian values which include tolerance and respect for others, all the while shitting all over the Muslim community and queer community.

I am so tired of the racist and bigoted ways of this government. If these assholes manage to keep power come next election, then I will no longer call Australia home, or my country of birth. I know when I am beaten and no longer wanted.
