I was online a lot around this time in 2000.

It was about this time that unfamiliar names started popping up in my clubs with "let's get a grip on ourselves and just face reality and give up because Bush won and we should just look ahead to the future."

Also, unfamiliar people popping up in my IM trying to bait me with, "So, what do you think about the news from Florida?" (I don't IM anymore but I imagine this is happening as well.)

Whether it's simple groupthink or a well-regulated online militia persisting through two elections, I'm not sure which scares me more! (Is it still paranoia when there is an actual conspiracy against us?)

The minority can only govern with the tacit permission of the majority. It is excruciatingly important for winners of such power struggles that the victory be not only official but also regarded as legitimate.
