My grandson is 14 and was afraid to go to school today...
In his rural Texas school, they had a mock election, and he and one other boy voted for Kerry. Today he was too afraid of being mocked and wounded to go to school. This breaks my heart.

2. Same with my son.
He told a friend he voted for Bush, because he knew his friend was going to do that. I tried to get him to understand that it was OK to disagree, but this morning he told me that he knew his friends were going to make fun of him.

Hey, the adults here are making fun of me, too. Even I was "scared" to go to work!

4. I didn't go to work today. I know I would loose it with the three repukes
in the office. Also, I got home from Boston at 5:15 a.m. I was hoping for a much happy ride home. The mood at Copley was so heavy. Bon Jovi was the last performer and when he signed off I swear there were tears in his eyes. It should have been a wonderful night -- James Taylor, Carol King, Black Eyed Peas, Sheryl Crow, Jon Bon Jovi, but it turned into one of the saddest experiences of my life.

3. Same with my 15 year old daughter....

....her teacher taunted her yesterday in class because she was the only one to vote for Kerry.

I told her to stand tall, proud and to state loudly that she is a Liberal. I also armed her with enough information to be dangerous...ie Diebold.

I also told her to look her teacher straight in the eyes and tell him if Bush "wins" the election he will have to fix his mess and stop blaming Clinton.

My daughter is a very strong young lady and really admired this teacher until yesterday...it wasn't that he supported Bush that bothered her, it was that he made fun of her choice and beliefs. It's also not an even playing field...she can't speak out fully, her grade depends on this putz.

Cheers,
Kim :toast:

6. What a thug. This is an abuse of authority.
I hope you submit a complaint to the school.

5. All he has to say is
"Laugh at me when you are sitting on the front lines in an unnecessary war."

7. I remember wearing my Mondale/Ferraro pin
Must have been fourth grade. I was surrounded by bullies, kicked, and accused of being gay.

To me, this is what a Republican was, is, and always will be. My ears were permanently shut that day to their appeals for my support, and my sense of their humanity was permanently lost.

Unfortunately, in our largely WASP country the authoritarian mindset seems to prevail--the bullied end up worshiping the bullies. That's why they thought "Shock and Awe" would work, but whatever else you can say about Arabs, they are not authoritarian, not in the Germanic sense.
