3. Anyone yet hear of what has been done or is being done...
....to inspect the code in the e-vote computers used in Yakima and Snohomish counties? It will be exceptionally reckless to just accept whatever output is generated (tape or a .pdf file to print) without scrutinizing those computers (for all the reasons so many have documented exhaustively at DU and elsewhere).

And, of course, it is going to be so exciting to see the manual count in counties like King, Yakima, Snohomish, Pierce, Tacoma, compared to what currently resides in the 'official' database tables at their respective county tabulating centers.

Peace.

11. I have yet to find, anywhere, a crystal clear statement that...
....they will have access to the source code on the computational voting devices in Snohomish and Yakima county and that they will compile and compare exactly what that source code does to the binary executable code installed on the devices used by voters.

Until, at least, that level of scrutiny is brought to the issue, it is irrelevant if they use a 'tape' or convert to .pdf and print to paper. And, in addition, an examination of the exact properties of each device -- what happens when a group of non-partisan experts touches the screen, dozens of times, and then examines the results recorded to memory/storage -- must be done. That, along with the examination of a compiled version of source code that is then compared to the results of the execuatable code, in each device used by voters in Yakima and Snohomish county, is what must happen. Anything less is bullshit.

Peace.

And tell them this is what they must check.

...numerous individuals involved in the situation in WA State. No satisfactory response, yet.

I will not stop pushing the issue; you can count on that, as well.

Peace.

8. Snohomish is touch screen?
ROFL, it has a difference of 261 votes between the first machine count and the machine re-count. How the hell did they manage THAT?

10. How will we ever know what is happening...
....with those devices until we have access to the source code and can compile and compare with the executable binary?

Peace.

12. We do NOT need the source code,
we need the ORIGINAL source code used to compile the
object code used on election day. Sad to say there is
no way to know now which version of source code was used.

4. I heard they were just going to print the results, then count them
I'm actually more interested in the 15,000 discarded ballots as far as THIS election is concerned. But people need to tell Sam Reed we need accountability.

7. They were going to print out . . .
. . . tens of thousands of "ballots" to count, which would have been monumentally stupid and pointless.

Now they are just going to examine the tapes, which will still be pointless, but avoids the monumentally stupid part.

6. Maybe the results match TOO closely.
Edited on Thu Dec-09-04 10:04 PM by glugglug
So far the error rate looks to be less than 0.05%.

I was under the impression that the machines are not supposed to be anywhere near that good, even ignoring the fraud factor. The delta between the 1st count and the machine re-count also suggests they are not this good.

Not alot going on they were just sorting the ballots by precinct. I'm going back Saturday and Sunday and will try to keep you posted. It's a good way to get some hands on experience.

18. The big punchcard counties will decide it.

Despite the opscan advantage that Rossi seems to have. The punchcards *should* have many more undervotes, and there is less potential for Rossi there (haven't done the math fully, but King goes a long way.)

19. Heh. That was weird. (now Rossi +7, still long ways to go)

I think I hit reload just when they were inserting the totals for the latest county, because the raw vote totals were showing up added to the gain/loss. That was a bit of a start. But it fixed itself up on another reload.

26. Kick GOP+46, and how to keep score.

For those of you who like a horse race:

Divide each candidate's vote gain by the number of votes so far
counted for that candidate:

D:

144/235938 = 0.0006103298324136

R:

190/322867 = 0.000588477608426999

The candidate with the bigger number is "in the lead"

To make up 42 votes, Gregoire has to get her "score" this
much above Rossi:

42/1372442 = .0000307 (rounded up)

Today was a good day. Rossi was leading before today, and Gregiore
is now close to where she needs to be to win the hand recount. He
should have picked up more in Yakima.

(And that of course doesn't include the hundreds of uncounted King County ballots, but it would be nice if the victory didn't have to
rely on those entirely. And one spurious major glitch could push
the race one way or the other really fast.)
