Someone hold my coat - I am about to DECK Joshua Frank!
Edited on Thu Dec-09-04 09:03 PM by IndyOp
JOSHUA FRANK - the _ _'ing _ _ _ - posted a hatchet job story at COUNTERPUNCH today in which he accused David Cobb of conducting the recount in Ohio for self-aggrandisement and fund raising. In the article he mentions that Cobb got only 186 votes in Ohio. <http://www.counterpunch.org/frank12092004.html>

===================================
My clever email to him:

Subject: Merely 186 votes - where did the other 44,040 Cobb votes go?

Dear Joshua Frank,

I write in regards to your article on Cobb and the Ohio Recount.

It is interesting that you mention that Cobb 'pulled in a mere 186 write-in votes' in Ohio, because screenshots of the Ohio Secretary of State's website saved on election night show that David Cobb had 4,685 votes in Lucas County (with 6.06% of precincts reporting) and a whopping 39,541 votes in Hamilton County (with 11.25% of precincts reporting). You can see the screenshots at <http://www.oliverwillis.com/node/view/1152>. If you check the Secretary of State's website now it will show that David Cobb got exactly 0 votes in both counties.

Wouldn't a journalist who is working for the people and who is curious and assertive want to know what happened to David Cobb's 40,040 votes?

I do not believe that a simple mix-up could explain this odd pattern -- maybe in one county, but in both? Maybe in one election, but in three separate elections? Third party candidates seem to have done unbelievably well in other suspect elections (Florida 2000 and California 2003). Please read "Siphoning Votes from Democrats to Third Party Candidates" a brief summary of these odd election events I posted at the Democratic Underground. <http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=203&topic_id=87168>

Is my brief summary above 'proof' of fraud? Certainly not. IT IS A CRY FOR HELP -- the issue of election fraud in the US deserves your very serious and immediate attention.
===================================

Apparently the YOUNG MAN can't comprehend English, won't read past the SUBJECT line, and has NO sense of irony -- his reply:

Cobb with 40,000 votes in Ohio?? I am laughing out loud. He wasn't even on the ballot. He pulled in a total of 130,000 votes NATIONWIDE... It would be silly to think he pulled off 40,000 in Ohio, a state that didn't even have his name on the ballot.

2. Alright, I'll hold your coat.
"It would be silly to think he pulled off 40,000 in Ohio, a state that didn't even have his name on the ballot."

He did completely miss the point. Yes, it's very odd that he pulled off 40,000 votes in Ohio and wasn't even on the ballot. That should be cause for concern. That's the point!

Wait, how about you hold MY coat?

3. Thank him for making your point.
If you have screen shots with any type of time stamp or other way to prove it came from a legitimate source, then write him back, and ask him to think about what he wrote to you.

Obviously, somehow, it was reported that Cobb had 40,000+ votes -- which is highly suspect with a write-in candidate in itself. But then, for them to "disappear" is also strange, is it not? Were they funneled to another candidate, or did they just tip off the scales into the etherland?

One strategy is to use their words back at 'em.... with logic on your side.

9. Write him back, and ask him to think about what he wrote to you -
I did write him back to ask him to think about what he wrote to me!

My subject line and the first line of my email were:

Good! You GOT the joke! There is NO WAY that David Cobb got 40,000+ votes in Ohio.

SO WHY DID THE OHIO SECRETARY OF STATE'S WEBSITE SHOW THAT HE DID?

Unfortunately Oliver Willis' post does not have the time/date stamp on it. I know there was someone on DU who also posted a screenshot that included both Lucas and Hamilton at the exact same point on election night - but I can't find the post!! If anyone else knows where it is, I would appreciate your letting me know.

10. "Shouldn't we report somewhere that the votes changed this way?" YES!
Report it EVERYWHERE! This evidence gets us away from the unending exit poll vs. vote tabulation battle (which IS an important battle AND we need to fight this on many fronts at the same time).

Send it to media and to government people and to friends and family and...

Mr. Frank,

I recently read a reply you wrote to someone about Cobb and the Ohio election. The copy of your reply I read is below.

---begin reply---
Cobb with 40,000 votes in Ohio?? I am laughing out loud. He wasn't even on the ballot. He pulled in a total of 130,000 votes NATIONWIDE... It would be silly to think he pulled off 40,000 in Ohio, a state that didn't even have his name on the ballot.
j
---end reply---

It appears that you didn't respond to the premise of original letter. I would appreciate it if you would reconsider the claim. If it is true that county officials reported votes for Cobb on the website, and then later removed them in multiple counties, doesn't that event deserve further consideration? I don't know what happened in the recent election but I think that there are a number of situations that look suspicious enough, especially when considered all together, that a deep investigation is warranted. Please do not laugh away legitimate concerns.

-----end my letter to Mr. Frank---------------------

Edit: I think that if I avoid accusing and insulting others when I write them that it leaves them little room to avoid the substance of my question or discussion.

11. Thanks regularjoe!
...and I too chilled out before replying to a young, and potentially helpful reporter. He is with COUNTERPUNCH - he *must* have something going for him.
