34. I think it just might be a move to set up his recount victory. It would
help to be seen as popular w/ or at least reconnecting w/ the troops.

Aren't you?

January 20th is going to hit a lot of people here like a wall of bricks.

3. Well, Kerry's not afraid to go
"in country". as he's proven many times before, unlike our selected resident. And, as much as I enjoy the thought of him as the real President, he could never be an INTERN. He knew more about being President than the chimp when he was in diapers. :)

6. Does Kerry know something we don't?
Did Kerry get more votes perhaps from the troops in Iraq? I would think the media would be shouting this if Bush had the troops votes. But I don't hear a word about these votes.

17. I will never get over having our NATIONAL Guard posted INTERnationally
It's appalling. They're our National Guard because we need them here. I'm amazed that they don't all just up and leave Iraq en masse. Who would Junior call up to chase after them? The ROTC? :eyes:

21. The National Guard/Reserves have to serve
24 months before they are safe from being recalled to Iraq. I work with so many that are deployed, they come home for 2 months and are deployed again. It is a crime what is being done to these people.

I served six years on Active duty and from personal experience, the Reservists and the National Guardsmen are thought of as second class soldiers. They get the leftover equipment, and the crappy assignments.

I don't care why John Kerry is going to Iraq. I am so damn proud of him for going. The troops need to know that there is someone willing to fight for them, and that hope is not completely lost. They need to know that someone is going to make sure that they get the equipment and supplies that they desperately need. They need to know that not ALL of the government has forsaken them.

37. I heard on Randi Rhodes today that many of the soldiers have NOT been
getting paid...some since June?!!! Could this be true?! She said their families are complaining about it!

How COULD the soldiers ever have voted for Bush...with all the extensions to their tour of duties. Plus I understand they're sending injured soldiers back out into battle as well.

I'm glad Kerry's going to see what he can do. But I'm also worried for his safety. Be safe, John. Be safe. We need you here at home on Jan. 20, remember?

What if Kerry's plan includes conversations with the brass over there about what he WILL do WHEN he becomes president?

13. well
if he's talking about going there "next month", that means it will be January....so unless he goes before inauguration day, we have no way of knowing really what the intentions are....but i mean, is this normal for a SENATOR to do? Isn't this a President's job? i might be in dreamland to think he knows something we don't know.

it was on the news.

Though I hate to be nervous, but we need him to be safe and sound on January 20. He better take care of himself.

24. My thoughts exactly.
I expect that he's going to get a real hero's reception by the troops. This is going to be hugely embarassing for the WH. I wonder if the chimpster will decide he needs to go now? Nah, too dangerous for the AWOL boyking.

18. I meant...
Kerry makes a point of saying that he is not trying to change the election... eveytime he makes a statement, its been about count the vote and it wont change result. Now he will be leaving early January?.. he needs to be in congress on the 6th.. he will Perhaps Kerrys job is to hold bush at bay as long as possible,so the people can get this done!...

20. He doesn't need to be in Congress on the 6th.
Where'd you get that idea? What will happen in Congress in early January need not - and probably should not - involve John Kerry's personal intervention. It keeps the raving wingnuts quieter that way. Almost as if someone finally gave them their medication.

26. This is pretty funny, actually.
While Bush is playing pResident, the real one is visiting the troops. What a quandry for the freepers.....they'd love to diss Kerry, but that would be an insult to the troops and it would ring a tad hollow when the Chickenhawk-in-Chief wouldn't dare to show his AWOL ass there..

"Well, gee, Senator, I thought the troops were here. They must have been deployed."

"How about that building over there."

"No, sorry sir. You'll have to wait. It's being ... cleaned. Yeah, that's it. You'll be able to get in there ... tomorrow ... yeah, tomorrow, that's the ticket."

"Why do I hear marching feet."

"Just the wind, sir."

Al Franken and Randi Rhodes are supposed to be heading to Iraq also. I don't know what the dates are. Randi mentioned it on Wednesday's show. Could/would it possibly be at the same time Kerry will be there??

35. it is risky, but what a great move, anyways...
he'll probably invest in some heavy security while there, a few things in addition to the standard accompaniament, I would bet he has a few contacts within the army listening out for any sort of stuff that may or may not go down when he does go over there.

also, remember people John Kerry served in an actual battle zone...unlike our current 'prez'. He's a bit better trained to be aware of the situation and risks. He'll keep his head low.

I can sleep better tonight, thanks for the thread jsamuel
