A Defeat for an Empire (excellent article)

This was in the Fort Worth Star Telegram and echoes my sentiments.

So, as a U.S. citizen, I welcome the U.S. defeat for a simple reason: It isn't the defeat of the United States -- its people or their ideals -- but of that empire. And it's essential that the American empire be defeated and dismantled.

The fact that the Bush administration says we are fighting for freedom and democracy (having long ago abandoned fictions about weapons of mass destruction and terrorist ties) does not make it so.

The planet's resources do not belong to the United States. The century is not America's. We own neither the world nor time. And if we don't give up the quest -- if we don't find our place in the world instead of on top of the world -- there is little hope for a safe, sane and sustainable future.

2. Who knows why I am up reading this stuff.
One thing that must be making Bush and Co really up tight is that Saudi are talking about dealing a little more in Euro's. And Russia is very near EU and may go with them with their oil and EU is also able to get oil from the Middle East by pipe line where we need tankers and our dollar does not look so good.We may not be able to control oil. God help us all if they start asking for Gold in place of dollars. It is starting to look, from my point of view. we have one big ace in the hole. The Military. And we are so far in debt who knows how long we can keep that going. Russia imploded from trying to do it all. We can not keep people in any longer.

3. This "mandate" has pretty well evaporated, I think.
Thing is, what we've known for years here....is slowly leaking into the general population. And I think it may be accelerating. Very interesting how this story about the soldier's asking about armor is amping in the general media. I think people really are becoming outraged. I mean, how do you have a $530BB defense budget, a problem ID'd a year ago, and it's still killing/maiming our troops? Where'd all that money go?

Bush may have "won" the election, but I think is problems are just starting. It's going to be a mighty interesting next few months...
