"Silencing the vote" "...key differences...passivity of the news media.''
http://www.independent-media.tv/item.cfm?fmedia_id=10086&fcategory_desc=Under%20Reported

December 09, 2004 - Baltimore Sun, The

PEOPLE FROM all over Ukraine have gone to Kiev to protest dishonest vote counting in their presidential election. Exit polls, so trustworthy that they are used worldwide to uncover election fraud, showed the opposition candidate had won, and the people didn't believe the news when it reported the government's surprise victory.

To those of us who doubt President Bush won the election in the United States, the key differences between here and Ukraine are the methods of fraud and the passivity of the news media.

Here the party in power used unverifiable computerized voting to boost its totals and intimidation and misinformation to suppress the vote totals of its opponents, but the news media haven't investigated it.

The recounts by the Libertarian and Green parties in Ohio and by the Ralph Nader campaign in New Hampshire are not being covered by the commercial news media, despite being under way for more than two weeks. And that's not even the most consequential story the national press has not yet seen fit to print.

9. New Draft of Letter and REQUEST FOR HELP
Edited on Sat Dec-11-04 11:01 AM by neversaynever
I can't get the addies to copy into my address line (Entourage), any suggestions?

and I have slightly adapted the text of the letter (to shorten and to include the comments made in the Baltimore Sun as a way of making an additional point)

Dear Media Outlet,

On December 8, Rep. John Conyers of the House Judiciary Committee hosted a congressional forum in which verifiable evidence of vote suppression and indications of vote manipulation in Ohio were detailed.

The forum was broadcast live on C-SPAN and several radio stations, while at the same time media outlets like your own covered stories ranging from Basketbrawl to Martha Stewart’s incarceration and Scott Peterson’s sentencing hearing. In the rare instances in which this story has been received national mainstream media attention, coverage has been riddled with dismissals, inaccuracies and understatement. Furthermore, it has been buried in the back pages of the print media or mentioned as a casual aside in the broadcast media.

I am baffled by the media silence on this issue. This is perhaps the most important issue facing our nation today: and it is a non-partisan issue. We cease to function as a representative when the results of our "elections" do not represent the will of the people. I urge the media to begin full, accurate, unbiased and prominent coverage of the investigations into the 2004 election.

A recent (Dec. 9) OpEd by David Lytel in the Baltimore Sun points out what many Americans who have been following this story on the internet and in the alternative media are thinking:

"To those of us who doubt President Bush won the election in the United States, the key differences between here and Ukraine are the methods of fraud and the passivity of the news media."

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/oped/bal-op.election09dec09,0,3131082.story?coll=bal-oped-headlines

If this opinion is valid, the media is complicit in an extensive cover-up operation, and this is sure to have lasting implications in terms of ratings, readership and sales. If integrity is not a compelling argument, then self-interest would seem to mandate that you seek to redeem yourselves immediately by picking up the story now.

C-SPAN has posted its coverage of the Conyers Forum online

(click on House Forum on Ohio Election Voting Procedures (12/08/04):

The House Judiciary Committee has also posted documentation of the forum on its website.

Judiciary Democratic Forum - Preserving Democracy - What Went Wrong in Ohio - December 8, 2004

Should you be interested in reviewing further documentation of voting irregularities, I suggest the following website, which provides a comprehensive overview of evidence, news reports and commentary collected to date:

I urge you to review these materials carefully and to finally give this story the attention it deserves.

11. Thanks for posting you letter. I'm going to start a new thread soon..
with some of the variations people have been sending, to give others ideas of what to write. I will post yours there, and I will continue to update/modify the "master" letter using ideas you all have shared.

Right now, I'm working on a "bonus", where people can instantly em C-Span requesting the hearing be televised on Monday.

You will like it. There is no copying and pasting involved. ;~}

Thanks again for sharing.
