18. I totally understand
I have been crying today also. This is a very sad day. This is too surreal. I don't understand our country.

3. Think about all the good
Sure, we lost the election - but atleast people know the issues and none too soon.

With the issues and tools at hand, as the constuitants of the president we can demand better and make our voice heard.

We just need to UNITE.

10. Spare us what?
Grief? We're not dead.

Infact were ignited and alive as can be!

6. Unfortunately, the Bush campaign has turned the fight
into 2 issues, abortion and gay rights. Most people who voted for him stated it was because of morality issues. How can we compete? Where do we begin?

15. Don't be so absolute about it..............
Accept the fact that for many people in America, homosexuality and abortion are "mortal sins". They come to these feelings honestly and out of deep religious conviction.

You ease into abortion rights with a position that, evil as abortion might be, back-alley illegal abortions are an even worse evil.

You ease into homosexual rights with a position that, while homosexuality might be undesireable, homosexuals in commited relationships are less a "danger" to society and that we should encourage these stable relationships through some sort of domestic partnership provisions.

"In your face" absolute, take-no-prisoners abortion rights and gay pride have turned these people away from their own economic interests.

12. some words for my brothers & sisters...

Seattle, Washington

the only consolation we can take from last night's election is that nobody can hereon deny that the US is a deeply divided country and bush* has no clear mandate...if kerry had won perhaps things would have been different but the militant feeling in the air is going to continue...there will be some celebrating for right wingers and some mourning for progressives, but come a week or so, or maybe less, the same problems that exist now continue to exist, and the battle will be joined again...bush* has no more campaigning to hide behind, and a bulked up congress to help him, if he is capable of being helped...

i don't know, really...we came so close to unseating him, and yet not enough...i foresee dangers on all sides...for gays, for women seeking abortions, for the environment, for minorities...for anyone poor or vulnerable or different in any way...

the hardest part of this is to concede that we lost the battle but not the war...the war has been going on throughout human history between control and liberation...we can let the bastards take away the hard-fought sense of unified opposition we had up until yesterday, or shrug and say today is another brilliant day in the universe anyway, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, and here we are, smiling, ready to do what we have to for this life and this world...peace...

13. Simply Red - Holding back the Tears...
Holding back the years,
Thinking of the fear I’ve had for so long.
When somebody hears,
Listen to the fear that’s gone.
Strangled by the wishes of pater,
Hoping for the arm of mater,
Get to me sooner or later,
Nothing ever could, yeah.
I’ll keep holding on,
I’ll keep holding on,
I’ll keep holding on,
I’ll keep holding on.
Chance for me to escape from all I know.
Holding back the tears.
There’s nothing here has grown.
I’ve wasted all my tears,
Wasted all those years.
Nothing had the chance to be good,
Nothing ever could, yeah.
I’ll keep holding on,
I’ll keep holding on,
I’ll keep holding on,
I’ll keep holding on
So tight.

20. I worrry about the folks who don't cry
Crying is healing. It is the feeling, truly compassionate, empathetic AND thinking people who will save the planet! But, first cry, cry and cry again. Then we will think clearer as to what to do next. I wonder why it is that fundamentalism has such a grip on so many otherwise good people - not just in the USA but around the world. It must have something to do with their fears that fundamentalist views somehow appears to ease or provide comfort.

So now we begin, again, the really hard work for the adult emotionally mature feeling, empathetic, non-reactive people - how do we reach the people living in fear who vote and act against their own interest. I was trying to explain this to my 20 yr old daughter last night who voted in her first presidential election. She sincerely did not understand why women vote against their interest - don't they see it? She asks. We have to stop making fun of people who do not beleive and understand as we do. Air America has to grow up not what the right wing talk shows do or say. Do we really want to be like them? What is their "victory?" It is not even in their interests.

So, let's cry, rant and rave, through fits - we've earned it and keep doing that as we keeo trying to figure out next steps.

Peace to all
