Interesting comments on CBC this AM about election..."cornered"
I was listening to "Sounds Like Canada" which airs on CBC and Radio Canada International (shortwave service). This show is mostly apolitical, focusing on Canadian culture and only touching on political activities occasionally.

Anyway, today Rufus Wainwright was on for a segment. I remember seeing him on TV a while back and thinking he was really great. So Sheila Rogers, the host, is chatting with him about his new album and she mentions a song with a lyric about "the ogre in the White House." Wainright explained that he was planning to spend more time "up north" (he was born in Montreal, I think I heard him say). He lives in NYC, but said that post-election he feels a need to have his "mental health bolstered."

They played the song with the "ogre in the White House, the cocktail party is over" and then Sheila comments how she was at a conference in Boston where there were lots of journalists. She said she could sense the frustration that "they can't get the truth" from Capitol Hill and that the over riding feeling was that of "depression."

At that point, Wainwright interjects what I consider to be an extremely insightful observation....that a lot of Americans feel "cornered."

Cornered. Yup, that's it, and that's why many want to get out. Once you're cornered, there's no other way to feel....

1. Well, when you're cornered is when you begin fighting back
It's called survival instinct. Elephants stampede when they're panicked, but not donkeys. They start kicking and biting. :D

2. I am fighting back! Kick! Bite! Huge Kick!
And yes, that is the correct sentiment - I feel cornered!

"If you're not outraged, then you haven't been paying attention!

3. That's right. Cornered animals don't flee. They attack.

We cornered a harmless black snake once and, boy, did it have an aggressive side. Never saw it coming. Raised itself until it was on its tippity tail and scared us silly. Didn't start to flee until we were well out of its way.

4. Fighting for Democracy is Patriotic
For now, I'm staying to fight for the ideals of the American Constituion. If we don't fight for our freedom, who will?

6. Well, don't you have to fight to get out if you're cornered?
Fight to get out of the corner?

No one wants to stay in a corner.....
