18. I've already told them I blocked them but the channels
are part of the Dish package we have and, at this point, can't be individually taken out, although Dish has hinted that ala carte is coming.
It's more for me. I don't want to watch the main propaganda news channels-so went into the menu and locked out the channels.
Not going to get rid of the entire deal, because there are some useful programs and channels I do want access to -FSTV, Link, TDS and Cspan 1 and 2.

20. Are you kidding?
How will they know? Your cable company knows exactly what you are watching. Have you ever called for customer service or tech support? They can tell you what is on your screen while they help you.

They know. And if suddenly NO ONE was getting their feeds, they'd know right away.

8. Good idea, I'll probably join you.

It's another way to reduce my C-Band cable subscription costs. The news channels came as a package (CNN headline CNN CNNFN CNBC FOX) and were one of the more expensive yearly subscriptions. Given the plethora of commercials on those channels compared to other channels, they should be free.

4. Can you imagine if tens of thousands did this on the same day as a protest
That would be amazing - everything needs to be coordinated though.

14. One thing we lack here is a good way to organize boycotts & other
civil disobedience on a mass scale. Would be nice if DU could be used this way - I wonder if there is any good way to accomplish this? Otherwise we all just say "yeah, we should do that!" and nothing of consequence happens.

12. public access is a powerful grassroots tool
I was jesting about the Daily Show much as I love it, but I am not kidding about community media. If more people used it as a resource, and actually participated in local media, that would counteract a lot of bullshit on the networks

16. Gone.
Direct TV is cancelled folks. No more MSNBC, Fox News, or CNN.

Too bad I have to give up BBC America, screw the talking heads though. Just el cheapo basic cable from this point forward.

17. Serious question:
Does the cable company know which channels its subscribers are watching?

I know that they can turn packages of channels on and off from headquarters, because I've had it done over the phone.

They can easily see what is going into any box they have hooked up to their system. See my above post.
