WTF?? GAO Will Not Examine Nov. 2 Irregularities
What the hell is this BS? It says "e-voting machines", but I going to assume that means regular voting machines. Did MSM ever report this? I never saw it and I still hear people talk about the GAO investigation.

11-29-2004

Comptroller General David Walker says it is not the job of the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to look into the reliability of e-voting machines by way of alleged voting abnormalities Nov. 2, Federal Computer Week reports. "While GAO has and will continue to do certain elections-related work, we are not authorized to engage in enforcement efforts relating to specific allegations of voting irregularities," Walker wrote in a statement. Walker said GAO still plans to study voting registration and voting technologies in general. He did not specifically address a request by members of Congress for GAO to study specific post-election e-voting concerns.

4. Well, what can I say?
Even GAO knows who the BOSS is - and it ain't the Democratic congressional leadership!

5. The GAO claim
that it's powers for investigaing election is limited. They suggest that criminal or fraud cases should be reported to the Juctice Department.

Thanks for nothing, GAO.

There was a PDF file on the GAO site a few weeks ago that basically said that their "investigation" would have no teeth. It's probably still out there.

In fact, here is the file

While GAO has and will continue to do certain elections-related work, we are not
authorized to engage in enforcement efforts relating to specific allegations
of voting
irregularities. Under the nation’s legal framework, elections are a matter largely
reserved to, and regulated by, the states.2 Thus, many of the issues relating to the
recent election are primarily the responsibility of state and local jurisdictions, since
they involve the implementation of state law and regulation. As a result, general
questions concerning these issues, as well as specific allegations of voting
irregularities, should be addressed to state and local officials, such as the Secretary of
State
or the State Attorney General.

Congress has, however, asserted its prerogatives under the Elections Clause of the
Constitution (Article 1, Section 4, Clause 1) to impose certain procedural
requirements on federal elections through such federal statutes as the Help America
Vote Act and the National Voter Registration Act, both of which are enforced by the
Department of Justice
. In this regard, questions or allegations regarding federal
voting irregularities generally are addressed by one of three federal entities.
