I just joined my local League of Women voters. You should too!
I attended a post election debriefing with our local elections admin, and I was impressed with the depth of knowledge of voting machines and technology and law in that room. As an organization, they've got a lot of cred and all of the members I've talked to really know their stuff. They'd be a good place to start for local voting reform & activism.

Any LWV members here? Anyone thinking about joining?

3. No, you do not.
Although a lot of the members are.

For, er, older gentlemen, it'd be a great way to meet the ladies. :P

2. that's a great idea. Too bad they still don't run the debates
but they had too much integrity for the Poppy Bush

The League of Women Voters is withdrawing sponsorship of the presidential debates ... because the demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter. It has become clear to us that the candidates' organizations aim to add debates to their list of campaign-trail charades devoid of substance, spontaneity and answers to tough questions. The League has no intention of becoming an accessory to the hoodwinking of the American public. Oct.1988

4. how does your LWV group feel about election fraud?
is there a sense of outrage from this election? what's the vibe?

reading your post kinda made me think about it. i've always considered LWV to be an older women's group. at 38, i'm probably old enough now :)

besides, it would be great to break out of my political circle and well, circulate. good advice... good for a new year's resolution: pick an avenue of dialogue and network your ass off.

5. I haven't met with them since the debriefing, which
was just 1 week after the election.

The debriefing was great, though -- they are against BBV, had some very intelligent things to say about provisional balloting, and practically every single person in the room was an election judge or clerk and/or precinct chair.

(And although LWV is nonpartisan, most of the onces I met were Dems, heh heh.)

6. Just FYI
I don't think the League nationally supports paper trails for voting machines...

7. I'm pretty confident that they have reversed themselves on this.
I had a conversation with a League activist who informed me that they HAD taken that position, but that a member was able to push her reform up through the process and caused them to reverse this position. I believe this is within the last year or two, though, and I wasn't able to find substantiation of this on their website.
