CNN Pirate Radio article, just a thought...

What kind of penalties are there if someone hijacked a major radio station frequency during peak hours, like a Monday morning? ..and blasted a message about the election fraud. Anyone here know?

Just curious. :)

I believe there would be massive fines and possible jail time, especially if it is decided by the PTB that doing such a thing is a threat to them.

I know a long time employee on station who could but would never put him self in jeopardy... he's got 3 kids now... damn... where are the peeps with nothing to lose? It's gonna have to get pretty bad (as if it isn't) for people to do these kind of fearless things...

7. it's been done in Australia

A few years ago someone hijacked a radio station and broadcast a message explaining why a lot of people were protesting the WTO (I think) because the media wasn't voicing their concerns.

Unlicensed or unauthorized operation of a radio transmitter or station (AM, FM, International Short Wave and TV) is a violation of Section 301 of theCommunications Act of 1934, as amended, 47 U.S.C. 301. Under theCommunications Act, violators may be subject to penalties up to $11,000 and the equipment used is subject to seizure and forfeiture by court order. Unlicensed operators also could be subject to criminal fines of up to $100,000 and/or imprisonment for up to one year, or both, for a first-time offense.

I love this kind of civil disobedience! Pretty harmless in the grand scheme of things.

I'm not sure what the penalties are for these folks. For sure, I think they made a mistake by answering an email from CNN, though. :-(

11. No they didn't it's a nifty catch 22 for the media

They have to hide this guys identity or tell Novak who works for them to spill the beans about Plame or they show favoritism. CNN would be stupid to pass out their identity.
