here's the old ignored story:
Call to scrap Romania poll result
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4055345.stm

Basescu says his fight is "to restore democracy"
Romania's opposition leader has called for the results of presidential and parliamentary elections to be annulled amid claims of voter fraud.
Traian Basescu, who heads the centre-right Justice and Truth Alliance, alleged that election authorities handed extra votes to his opponent.
With most votes counted, Mr Basescu's party trailed Adrian Nastase's Social Democrats by around 470,000 votes.
European election observers on Monday expressed concern over possible fraud. "

Basescu is now taking office.

1. Thought you'd care. Not recount - revote. They asked, they got it.
Sorry for intruding in your busy schedule.

3. I've heard calls for revotes in Ohio, too.
It seems some poll workers disposed of the original tabulating tapes. Can't really do a recount properly without them.

4. No doubt in my mind..
That if this same thing was done here in Amerika -- fairly and transparently -- our own challenger, John Forbes Kerry, would also be the winner. We need to attack this on two fronts. Front one: investigating the fraud. Front two: a re-vote in all suspect states, if not all states. I am confident that John Kerry would win -- there is not a single doubt in my mind.

Why is the notion of democracy forgotten in "the land of the free"?

8. This is factually inaccurate
The "second election" in Romania was neither a recount nor a revote. It was the SCHEDULED runoff between the two top vote getters for President. The election results noted in the BBC article were not, in any way, reversed. It was, however, a suprise to most Romanians (including my wife) that Basescu won, as Nastase was widely regarded as the chosen successor to Iliescu.
