6. It would take a constitutional amendment
...and there's no way in hell that you could get enough small states to sign into it in order to pass the 38-total state threshold.

12. 2/3 states have to sign on to the idea...I forget what the
Congress numbers have to be. But I say go for it anyway...it's only logical. No matter who wins, we should work to abolish the electoral college. Otherwise the people get disillusioned with casting votes (rightly or wrongly)

EV is completely ANTEDILUVIAN in this instant communications era!

13. No, 2/3 of Congress has to support. Three quarters of the states...
..also have to sign on.

It ain't going to happen, even if we have another popular vote goes to A, electoral vote goes to B situation.

16. Thanks for clearing that up. I know most people say it could
never happen........but I STILL push for it. I'm firm on that.

Best, SB :hi:

15. No requirement that states be winner take all, though.
Could do it like Maine (per district), or what Colorado wants to do (proportional allocation).

11. I hate it too. But it makes it fun to watch
Watching returns certainly wouldn't be nearly as much fun if there were just a national count.

18. Here's what it would take to abolish the EC overnight!
If Kerry wins the EC vote while Chimp wins (I mean, steals!) the popular vote. The Repugs in Congress would call a special session the next day and vote to trash the EC faster than you can say, "Payback's a bitch!"

19. Okay, but what if
the popular vote is won by Shrub? and the electoral college by Kerry? Wouldn't it be great to say for the next 4 (8) years, gee sorry, it is our turn???

21. I don't care
which way he wins; just win!

Then we can talk about more sane policy. As long as fucking pnac is in charge, we're going to spend all of our time fighting for civil liberties what we've won, the hard way, in this country. We'll spend our time keeping those assholes from... you know the rest.

Go Johnny, go!
