There are reasons to be optimistic

Let's pretend for one minute that the 51% to 48% results are correct and that Bush won Ohio and Florida and New Mexico fair and square. I, like so many, smell a huge rat, but lets give benefit of the doubt for one moment. If they really won, then we must believe that 51% of the electorate is simply that gullible. Fine. This is America after all, and many good Americans would like to believe that their government would never lie to them, would never attack itself to create a new Pearl Harbor or a Reichstag fire as Hitler did. They still think of America as a beacon of hope to the world. They haven't noticed that due to our nation's fading image, whether it be from an illegal imperial war, torture of prisoners at Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo Bay or a paltry response to the Tsunami tragedy, America no longer has the moral authority to be that country they all want to be proud of. We are a rogue nation.

That said, 55 million people were not fooled. They know the administration was at least caught sleeping on 9/11, and many have the suspicion that the administration was involved either in whole or in part. They know this administration is a disaster. Even if another terrorist attack were to happen, it would only have the opportunity of fooling those who voted for Bush. I live and work in New York. I no longer fear terrorist attacks. I fear my own government. Another terrorist attack would only be further proof that we need to remove this bunch of thugs that occupy the White House. Another attack will not bring people together the way it did after 9/11 when Bush's approval approached 90%. That is not to say we wouldn't participate in humanitarian aid--of course we would. But that is when I believe people will take to the streets and demand these evil people get out of power.

I didn't use the term evil before the election, but after reading about what PNAC is exactly, I come to the conclusion that evil is the only word that can be applied--yes, Tucker Carlson, Bush and company IS evil (reference to Carlson's typical Crossfire response to criticism of Bush). I can see a day when soldiers in Iraq more and more realise what is going on and will refuse to fight.

Think of how amazing it is that an administration that should've been able to coast to victory in 2004 (based on incumbency and being a so-called "Wartime president") had to fight for every vote and more than likely cheated to get there.

Bottom line is: "We won't get fooled again." The number is up for Bushco, and with any hope, whatever is left of moderates and real conservatives in the Republican party will lead the call for these bumbling idiots to step down in order to save their own face. If I were still a Republican, I'd be ashamed to be part of that party.

I believe we won. But my point is, even if we actually lost by the official numbers, it is amazing that we were able to get as many votes as we did, considering Bush's approval remained so high for so long. We should commend ourselves for that and build on it. If we have free and fair elections next time around, there is no doubt that we will win by huge landslide.

excellent, these guys have no problem lying about everything....wmd, 911, social security, tax cuts for everyone, etc...

believing they might steal an election, where the votes are not traceable, counted by republican supporters, protected by republican judges, is just "foolish"
