Only b/c my daughter is watching Nickelodeon and i can only switch the channel for like 2 minutes or insanity will break loose.

BTW, I also met Al Sharpton at that little party. He was a hoot! LOVED HIM - however, my "cameraman" (my friend and former editor, a former REPUBLICAN until Bush came along) wasn't with me at the time, so no pics of me and Big Al.

Oh - that other guy there - that's actor David Keith of an "Officer and A Gentleman." He's a Knoxvillian, too. (And, we can see who I found more important. LOL!)

They are also suggesting that we do not send clothing, as much clothing is made on the continent and would help the economy.

I've seen wonderful pictures,though, of people who have not left and are assisting locals with the brutal job of clean-up/recovery.

I actually had to explain to someone yesterday why it was so important for him to make a statement of condolences immediately. As the person was arguing with me telling me how it would not matter to the Thai people, as they would have no way of receiving that message, the news broadcast in the background showed an indigenous person was bawling & asking the reporter "where is the U.S.?" The person hung there head when I told him, "that is why", that the reporter who reads the wire reports does not have access to my tears of sympathy and grief for them, but if georgie had been a human being and showed feelings for them, the reporter could have passed this on....as our leader??

My husband (who does laser R&D stuff for the army, and has a masters in optics) was scoffing at the laser guy on the show, saying if it were really sophisticated people out to cause some damage here, they'd be using lasers that aren't in the visible part of the light spectrum. He's going on now about nonlinear crystals, I'm having flashbacks to proofreading his impossibly jargony thesis.

To get a laser to go into a cockpit you'd have to be far enough away that the angle is not so straight up. Like a mile or so away at least, probably more (that's off the top of his head, not real math). And at that distance, you couldn't do any damage with a toy one, which wouldn't be strong enough at even like 100 feet or so to do any eye damage.

And he added that it's weird they used a green one, the cheaper green ones he thinks are really red ones with a crystal added that increases the frequency, which makes them green, but that causes a loss of efficiency. (now he's rambling a bit about whether the frequency is doubled, or one and a half). Your eye sees green better, so it wouldn't be something you'd want to use if you were trying to be stealthy and powerful.

He's also muttering about YAG lasers, which are the kind used I guess in laser range finders. And getting increasingly technical. :scared:


(and of course your question leads me right back to my previous suspicions that you really are KO covertly building your fan base here, and now you're doing some fact checking for your followup story)

Mile or so away -- totally doable. in major metropolitan areas there's plenty of residential areas way more than a mile or so away from airport.

configuration of crystal and get it to do various things like change frequency or invert? That stuff is so very cool. Ask him if he works with quantum cascading lasers. I know a guy who is getting close to building something on the atomic scale that will work at room temperature. A real revolution.

I get it. When we were up there recently, I ran into the back of so many people who just STOPPED dead for no reason.

Really annoying. We only walked on the side streets after the first couple of hours and wanted to hit people with a bat while screaming, "Get the HELL out of the way!"

320. Yes, I worked for the government at the time that photo was taken-
And no, there were no windows, although there was a door :)
Not more than a week after this photo was taken, I got a much nicer office that actually had decent lighting!

329. I worked in TV for 10 years before I worked for the government-
you get used to working in rooms with no windows! Having said that, I'm much happier now that I get to see the sun (or rain) everyday while I work because my desk is right in front of a nice big window!

Then highlight the url for the pic in photobucket, copy, and then paste into the body of your message.

I don't know if you're watching or not but at 12:35 a.m. EST, the Conyers story is going to be shown again.

It's exciting to hear anyone say "Ohio" these days, and when you mix it with "a number of House Members" and "Senator" and "challenge," well, it's better than eating gluten-free, chocolate chip cookies with Keith himself.
