**OH Citizens can demand a recount! Just 5 per county needed!!**
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 07:11 PM by batchdem04
I got this off of Atrios, and I googled for verification

Also, a group of five or more voters can request a recount on a question or issue. The recount process begins by filing a written application with the Board of Elections of each county in which votes are to be recounted. R.C. 3515.01. The application must be filed within five days after the results were declared. R.C. 3515.02. The application must also list each precinct within the county where votes are to be recounted, and for each precinct a $10 deposit must be paid. R.C. 3515.03.

5 voters shouldn't be hard to pull together. For those of us not there we can contribute for the funds required to recount the entire state.

here. There was one county, however odd it may seem, where there was not 1 single vote for Kerry.

11. If only it were true
I called a friend of mine in Ohio about this, she said they knew this earlier today but after checking the 5 voter rule is in regards to questions and issues (EG: referendums only) the losing candidates must initiate the recount. Sucks but true ;o(

14. Ah, but look at this:
From the web site: "Any losing nominee or candidate in a primary, general, or special election can request a recount."

If we ask, say, Eric Fingerhut to make the request, will that automatically count the votes for Pres/VP as well, or just the Senate votes, in his case? Or does Kerry himself have to make this request to count the Presidential votes?

29. Tell "your friend" she's wrong
Any group of five or more qualified electors may file with the board of a county a written application for a recount of the votes cast at an election in any precinct in such county upon any question or issue, provided that the members of such group shall state in such application either that they voted "Yes" or in favor of such question or issue and that such question or issue was declared defeated or rejected, or that they voted "No" or against such question or issue and that such question or issue was declared carried or adopted. Such group of electors shall, in such application, designate one of the members of the group as chairman, and shall indicate therein the voting residence of each member of such group. In all such applications the person designated as chairman is the applicant for the purposes of sections 3515.01 to 3515.07 of the Revised Code, and all notices required by section 3515.03 of the Revised Code to be given to an applicant for a recount shall be given to such person.

39. I'm still seeing "upon any question or issue"
Not necessarily on a candidate. But, if we call for a recount on an issue (say Issue 1, the "Defense of Marriage" amendment that I'm sure all of us voted against), will that automatically recount every other vote as well? I'm still not clear on this....

If the totals were flipped when they were sent to GEMS, it might not be reflected at the original machine, just at the GEMS tabulator.

If need be, I could relay this info to my dad (because I'm currently in college at OSU in Columbus) and he could get the ball rolling. He's heavily involved in politics, anyway.

But, shouldn't we demand a recount after the provisional ballots are counted, first?

54. The problem is,
Kerry already conceded the election to Bush,
therefore a recount is not possible. John Kerry
himself already said that there wern't enough provisional
ballots to allow him to win ohio. I think his 20 lawyers on
standby would have advised him to press Ohio for a recount if
it was possible.

64. preliminary results analyzing voting patterns in Ohio counties
We have been crunching voting results in Ohio and have discovered the following CONSISTENT PATTERN:

First, using congressional voting, we divided Ohio counties into 2 groups:
Group 1 - counties where congressional votes heavily favored Republicans;
Group 2 - counties where congressional votes were close or heavily favored Democrats.

In Group 1 counties, the number of ballots with no presidential vote were consistently 300 in 10,000 (3%).
In Group 2 counties, the number of ballots with no presidential vote were consistently 600 in 10,000 (6%).

That's 3% additional ballots without a presidential vote recorded ONLY in counties that were not reliably Republican!

We are beginning to see this SAME CONSISTENT PATTERN in other states.

70. One more time...fax OH Secretary of State NOW!
The Ohio Secretary of State, an African-American no less, needs to be told that we demand that Ohio's votes be counted. We can make this protest a little more meaningful by engaging in some Republican style dirty tricks.

Instead of e-mailing or sending letters demanding that the black box voting must be stopped...send FAXES. As the last page of your fax, send a black piece of paper like construction paper, saying this represents the black (hoodie??) you'll be wearing...the black voters who've been disenfranchised...the black representing the death of our right to vote...till our voting system is no longer held hostage by machines. Not only is this color appropriate, but thousands of people sending a black page will DEVOUR fax toner, and this will cause major inconvenience for them. These faxes won't be so easily ignored!

PLEASE help with this protest!! Address your faxed letters of protest to:

J. Kenneth Blackwell
Ohio Secretary of State
Fax: (614) 544-0649
