This might get locked, but I want everyone to remember what kind of people we have here trying to dissuade us from focusing on the election fraud. They are doing everything in their power to try to dampen our efforts and mock our emotions. I am seeing too much of it the past two days and it is only going to get worse. DO NOT LET THEM GET TO YOU. I posted this as a reply in the "Is it normal to hate freepers so much?" thread, but I want to repost it so that everyone remembers. If mods think it's bad, I do understand and I will just keep it saved for the Demopedia when it is back up.




What I learned on DU: Classification of Freepers

and how to tell which is which. (by request of another DU'er, who wants to know the 'dead give aways') :hi: (and also accused ME of being one) :hi:

ok, i think there are about 5 classes of freepers - I actually think I saw something similar posted a while ago but this is what I've learned personally.



CLASS 1 - "Drive-by Freepers" (*aka* Pre-Skool Freepers)

Drive-by freepers post short, brief, negative and disruptive comments in the middle of threads - usually 'one-liners' followed by one or two exclamation points (!). They are usually the most obvious and easiest to pick out. They almost come off as bratty little pre-skoolers. They last no more than about 30 posts, if they're lucky (they are also aware that they won't last). Their act is more or less, like a drive-by shooting (except it's a drive-by posting).


CLASS 2 - Disinformation Freepers

Disinformation Freepers can be either newer or older members, usually having registered within the last month or two. As the name suggests, they post either straight out bogus or distorted information to confuse or upset the issue or cause being discussed. They usually pound the disinfo like it's fact and no matter what the facts really are, they will put DU'ers out on a pointless hunt for unneccessary research. These guys don't last long either.


CLASS 3 - Sneaky 1000+ Freepers

Sneaky 1000+ Freepers aren't as easy to detect, but we all know they're out there. These guys might post and lurk for months, even years, (also might even be a donator) pretending to blend in with the crowd, only to go back to whatever Freep forum they came from to tell their Freepy friends what DU'ers are up to.


CLASS 4 - Borderline Freepers

Borderline Freepers (we have a good number of these guys crawling around, mostly in Election 2004 forum) are similar to Disinformation Freepers, except they focus more on turning every effort or issue into something negative. They will either purposely misinterpret the law, pretend to 'believe there was fraud in the election' yet try to "debunk" every fact, lawsuit, or piece of valuable information that comes our way. They will argue about almost anything, but not to the point where you piss them off enough for them to reveal that they are a Freeper. These are the hardest class of Freepers to get banned - everyone (probably even mods) knows who they are but they are so deceitful and unrevealing that there is no concrete basis on which to ban them.


And we cannot forget these guys:


CLASS 5 - To-the-Rescue Freepers (*aka* "Tag Team Freepers")

To-the-Rescue Freepers are simply freepers who come and post only to back up other Disinformation or Borderline Freeepers. They post to make it look like someone else is agreeing with a Disinfo or Borderline - almost like, hey, another Freeper to the rescue!!! (Tag team Freepers are a combination of any of the above, posting replies in support of eachother or agreeing with eachother to back the other up).





That's all, don't let them get to you, they are everywhere!!!

Do you have any "expert freepers" - you know, the ones that are highly educated in a particular topic (mathematics, law, etc) and know for a fact that the post is not acceptable in the field, would not cut the mustard with other such experts or in a court of law?

Any poster who tries to make you feel that you are being frivilous, inhumane or bad about focusing on January 6 and the stolen election instead of on Tsunami Relief should be taken with a grain of salt.

There are soooo many of those "borderline freepers". Drives me crazy because they seem to know just how much they can get away with and they push it to the limit. There's one, in particular, that comes to mind. He/she is always negative and can't wait to say: "I told you so". Oh well, some people need to get a life, or a least a hobby. Have a good one!

Finally, stop worrying so much about freepers. You're not going to catch a disease from one, if they're disruptive the mods take care of them. Just go about engaging in discourse, and stop thinking that everyone who disagrees with you is an evil troll.

it is my own speculation and it relates to 'freepers', not 'DUers'. So if you are not a freeper, what have you got to worry about? :hi:

i don't expect it to last long. someone asked me what i thought in a pm, and i figured this all out in my car on the way home from work tonight and i made myself laugh, that's all. i totaly understand if it is deleted.

If they continually have a negative effect by making everyone feel dejected, discouraged, angry, etc., then my freeper alert goes off...

When I feel Im surrounded with completely off the wall logic and the repetition of unsubstatiated claims. Yet no one willing to accept this and so many people taking these things as the gospel truth. I believe that all this jumping to conclusions, having tons of rumors, presenting possibilities as cold hard facts and shouting down anyone who disagrees as being an idiot... or worse yet a freeper (which im assuming is not only someone from the Free Republic, but also all Republicans).

Most of those people are just as thoughtful and intelligent and non-delusional as I'm sure you consider yourself to be. Stop being so denigrating ( I've read your posts, you are sometimes quite patronizing) and perhaps people will find it easier to respectfully disagree with you.

Getting so angry with people who point out that these theories arent going to fly in the mainstream conciousness of America.

I myself have gone off on people who bring up the Skull and Bones thing. It is absurd. I also don't see how people expect to ever get rid of the right wing fundie branch of the Republican party unless they support the opposition party that has the most chance of beating them. Without election reforms and verifiable voting no one stands the chance of beating them ever again unfortunately. We pretty much have one party government in this country right now, no checks and balances left to speak of. So this is the fight. Now or never, however unrealistic it is.

I understand the frustration Democrats feel, I've been one all my life and I sometimes think I want to leave the party, especially if no Democratic Senator stands up and contests on January 6th (even if it doens't change a thing it is still a potent symbolic gesture and shot in the arm) and then fights on for election reform (not the bogus HAVA reforms but real reforms).

I'm gonna luv seeing them hurl when Kerry is inaugurated!

I am a newbie who's been accused of being a freeper. I don't mind being cursed at -- I understand that people are freaking out about Bush winning, so what the heck -- but I got one or two that made death references. I'm too new to know what it's been like here at DU for years, and I've seen so many "ain't gonna happen" posts, which for the most part I dismiss and I'm of the it's gonna happen, count on it crowd. Your pointers are helpful, and this newbie appreciates it..tx.

I have encountered these on other message boards ( I am relatively new here).

"To Good To Be True" Freepers: They are the ones who claim to be "just a housewife" or "just a grad student" or whatever will make them fit in best in the local community but have an incredible body of knowledge that is way out of line with their pretend personae and they post almost exclusively about one topic.

"Need No Sleep" Freepers post 24 hours a day and are always there to respond esp when someone makes a good point or is leading a discussion in a productive direction. I suspect that these are actually committees of Freepers.

Which I think is sad, considering the other kind are quite virulent.

But maybe I'm just too new here to recognize the true freeps.

There are some wonderful lawyers here, who give us some great insight and information, but there are also the fakes who think "being a lawyer" or "a doctor" gives them cred on all subjects.

I'm a newbie who's been accused of being a Freeper because I expressed a viewpoint several people didn't agree with. I was not interrogated as to my resume, but, if asked, I would have had to truthfully reply with the apparently very suspicious "I'm a housewife at the moment" (I've been a stay-at-home mom for the past 3 years). Just so you know, a lot of college-educated women choose to stay at home with the kiddies for some number of years. However, many have had successful careers beforehand which is why they might sound suspiciously intelligent. So too, with the alleged grad students: Attending grad school is a sign of possible intelligence. Also, having been both categories above, I can attest to the fact that they are around at odd hours since they do not hold traditional 9-5 jobs. Hope this clears things up.

P.S. Please see my post under "General Discussion: Politics", entitled "Seven signs you might be suffering from Freeperphobia". You seem like a nice person and I don't want you falling in with a bad crowd.

disagree about election fraud. I think the problem is that some posters who disagree, continually and habitually visit election fraud posts to cram their views down other's throats. IMO that's the difference. It's a habitual ongoing disagreement with them.

That will give the Freeperphobes a moment or two pause

election fraud, and I'll tell you why:

Most progressives read a lot, rather than rely on mainstream (republican) media, and are usually fairly well informed individuals... informed from a myriad of sources. Progressives by nature question authority, or surface information (a characteristic of progressive thought). They dig for contrary opinion.

Furthermore, progressives have a passion for protecting those least able to stand for themselves. Progressives generally believe that every person should have equal rights as every other person, regardless of color, race, religion, sex, sexual preference, education, or physical ability.

So, when we see that our African American, Native American, Latino, Asian or Indian brothers & sisters, or any other member of our human clan, has been "forced" to stand in line for 10 hours in the rain to have their vote count, when their lilly white and wealthy counterparts across town have more than enough machines to get in and out of a precinct in 15 minutes, some little liberal light bulb (also characteristic of progressives) goes off in our heads, and we look around to see what the cause might be!

And when we see that in EVERY case where there has been a problem with a touch-screen machine, OR voter disenfranchisement, OR "lost" voter registrations, OR questions of signatures that disqualifies hundreds of voters -- many of whom have voted for 30 years in the same precinct -- are then classified as non-votes, and that ALL these problems favor ONLY ONE CANDIDATE, our progressive, questioning, justice-seeking little brains EXPLODE and we rub the two remaining brain cells together and come up with a progressive point of view: that this is SOOOOOO "not right" that it HAS to be fraud.

That is something that progressives share in common! So, when we see other people that DON'T go through a similar process, it just kinda makes us wonder:

1) Did the person not understand the presented evidence -- did I not explain myself clearly, or make the proper presentation? or

2) Does this person have additional information that I DON'T have that would somehow CHANGE the conclusions I have drawn from the information I have..... in which case, a discussion of new data ensues. or

3) Does this person have some sort of ulterior motive for wanting me to change my already analyzed point of view, in favor of some other conclusion....and if so, WHY???

That's why it just doesn't compute that a "genuine progressive" would believe there was no election fraud. Because there was.

Fun for some time, but I imagine it bogs you down when you can't lay a finger on them.

What I hate most about them is that they raise the paranoia level and the distrust for newbies.

I wrote it after reading the first post in this thread, the one that described how to recognize Freepers/ Excuse me, gotta go, Karl just came down into the basement with some more coffee for the six dozen people working the DU late shift -- oops, shoot, I just mistakenly let you know about all us FREEPERS working out of Karl Roves' basement. Drats! He's gonna be pissed.

...they kind of sharpen your resolve, y'know. As long as they don't get out of control, the borderline ones esp give opportunities to sniff out weak arguments and formulate responses. I say thanks to them for toughening us up, giving us the courage of our convictions.

Freepers annoy but they don't depress me--I think nobody should knock us off center so easily. I'm finding that as Faye points out, after awhile they fall into recognizable patterns and start to echo each other. I support the policy here at DU, as I think it allows more dissenting opinions to be aired in general. I'd rather decide for myself who's arguments are questionable than see too much censorship.

don't get me wrong. I'm just saying that it's not a bad thing to recognise the patterns so you can figure out how not to take the bait. That's what I mean by courage of convictions. You learn not to be bothered. I'm not saying lock horns--that doesn't work, no. But often they put up arguments that any of us may encounter elsewhere and can learn to deflect.

I also like to observe the volume of freep attacks, in relation to certain issues (and angles within those issues!). It's almost as if they want to let you in on their agenda so you can spank them for their corrupt little souls.

Regardless of the category, or effectiveness of evidenced freepery what I find most compelling and informative to infer from the volume and focus of the freepcidents is the world view/mind set revealed thereby.

In other words, it lets us take a look 'round the kind of mind set that can act evilly to undermine all of the civil liberties and protections our country was founded on for personal gain, and attribute their greed a perverse divine righteousness.

The kind of stuff most Americans cannot understand.

The freepers are the GOP equivalent of 24-hour tinfoilers, birthed in the age of Reagan, now hopelessly hopped up on crank, Miller Lite and Cheese Doodles in their age of Empire.

Like that angry drunk at dusk, they're eventually goin' down. It'll end real ugly, like a bad episode of COPS, but it'll end.

And Ann Coulter, like the ideological crankho she is, will scream and yell and ultimately do that orange suit women's correctional facility perp walk. Her own anger will make her do something, someday, that gets her locked up. Don't even get me started on those black-hearted GOP women. There's something wrong with a woman who votes against basic civil rights for women.

Most Repub families have OUR values, not Freeper values. Believe that. And the overwhelming number of freeps at the top AND the bottom of the food chain are little more than self-interested fools.

You joined 3 days ago and are lecturing other members and condescendingly telling them that you're "worried about them" because of their posts. What is that supposed to mean? What are you *really* so worried about?

did not know this one...I guess ignorance is a bless, I do believe in the DU members but know ..oh well I guess have to memorize usernames better...maybe that explains why my post do not get much attention around here..and they drop like stone...:evilgrin:

All that I may add is that the last months since the election, a lot of good posters have quit or are lying low. Also a lot of the newer posters are more worried about Freepers than Kerrying on.
Eventually the bugs get worked out.

if you aren't a freeper, and you know you're not a freeper you should be offended at all :) I don't think anyone thinks you are, so dont' think it for a minute. i also do drive-by postings, like LOL or HAHAH but that's not what this refers to.

not taking new registrations, which was frustrating for me at the time.

I can see the logic of blocking new registrations during times of stress and planning though.

I hate freepers. I hit my alert button all the time on them. It pains me when I check back the next day or so and they are still registered. The mods can be slow sometimes.

for posting this. I'm new, and a target no doubt.

However, I've spent the past year posting on a board that is rife with freepers. At this point, I can smell a post of theirs a mile away, so I'm familiar with 4 out of the 5 on your list. But since I started posting here, I've been a bit confused by some of the posts by members with several hundred to 1000+ posts that didn't quite jibe, didn't quite make sense. Now I get it.

This thread has degenerated into a vehicle for the inevitable attacks, counterattacks and innuendo towards other members for allegedly being freepers. The alert button is the most suitable and , indeed, the only accepted remedy for dealing with a suspected freeper.
