Let's invite the southern states to secede again :-)
after reading all the comments on other threads, and knowing the history of the south (hey I grew up in Texas so dont flame me on being ignorant, unless you want to argue that Texas is not part of the south), and seeing the trends, I think we should invite the south to secede....again.

We promise not to intervene.

PS - I realize this might cause some practical problems for our southern democratic friends. perhaps we can trade dems for repubs, like they do in footbal LOL

4. Thank you.
Some will certainly disagree with me, but political diversity also helps to make us, IMO, the greatest nation on Earth. Without at least two strongly opposing parties working for the same ultimate end, a safe and prosperous nation for all of it's citizens, complacency takes hold and from that complacency comes failure and ruin.

Hey we accept cultural diversity in all of its other forms. Let's remember that political diversity also helps make us stronger, even if we do fight like fools with those who oppose our views, they're still in the family.

Now, all of you who will misread or misinterpret the point of this post can display your ignorance and flame away.

5. No Flame....As for myself though, I'm a little tired of .....
..political diversity. Cultural diversity, oh Yes!
I'm just getting weary of the fight for a (perceived) utopia... great health care, the Arts and I guess to make it really simple (since I'm tired) people just excited about getting up in the morning and doing the plain and fun act of Living...

11. Bite me.............
I drove around with Kerry bumper stickers, had Kerry yard signs and wore Kerry shirts in a Georgia precinct that votes 90% Republican. I put my ass on the line for this guy and this party. Don't tell me to get out of my country. This is absurd. There are millions of blue voters in red states for God's sake. If you want to start some dumb asses thread like this you have an IQ about like my neighbors who voted for Shrub for 4 more years of hell. We have to work together to change things not ridicule the support we have anywhere!!!!!!!

14. Welcome to DU, redtailwolf!
We are so glad to have you with us! My most favorite president of my lifetime is your former governor, Jimmy Carter. He has been my avatar since I joined DU, but I changed it on Tuesday to "I voted," but now we can no longer see avatars. I understand your dilemma. I live in a blue state, but in a red district. You take chances when you support any candidate that is not favored in your area. I have my Kerry-Edwards and DU bumper stickers on my car, but have a "Support the Troops" ribbon in the middle, hoping to keep from being rear-ended. I do honestly support the troops, but just wish that they hadn't been placed in this untenable position. Anyway, welcome to DU and please don't be offended, just now. People are angry and hurt and are lashing out for no reason. I'm just sorry that it's at you. This is unwarranted, since you did more than your part.:-)

12. Copy cat threads belong in the Lounge.
Even such a newbie as you has been here long enough to know this topic has been beaten to death. Take a look at this map & get back to me.

This is the country we live in, not some kiddy block red & blue wonderland. Grow up.

13. Bill Maher said this exact same thing, and I know that you don't get cable
But he invited those Southern states, who wished to secede, back in the 1860s, to do so again, and that he wouldn't stop them. And he included Texas.

I think that a more practical solution would be to do more campaigning there, so our Southern friends get to know the candidates. Or choosing a candidate from the South. I love John Edwards, and would vote for him, again, in a heartbeat, but my favorite president in my lifetime, Jimmy Carter, seems to have been better able to resonate in the South. They should emulate him. I don't know the history, but those who hope to win the South certainly should.:-(

16. That was a pretty rough show!
Yes, he was good, as usual. I did think that this was funny, but I live in the Northeast. I have to admit that I've cooled on him, when he has denigrated Kerry. If he was dedicated to seeing Bush* defeated, he should have cut Kerry more slack, no matter how he felt, personally, because Kerry was our only hope. And to alienate Southern voters is never a good move, since they won't forget it, election or not.

20. Yes, he was. He usually is, but that was a pretty rough show
I don't like him as much as I used to because of his criticism of Kerry. He's entitled to his opinion, but if he wanted Bush* out so badly, he shouldn't have spent so much time denigrating Kerry's campaign.:-(

17. I have a another thought--Why don't WE the Blue States secede???
and join Canada as provinces. This would be the MOST powerful way to starve the beast:

http://election.cbsnews.com/election2004/

See the election results map at the above site. My reasoning:

1) All of the blue states form areas contiguous to Canada.
2) The Canadian wheat belt lies between the West Coast Blue states and Great Lakes blue states and would love to have our commerce.
3) We can transport our goods coast to coast via Canadian Pacific.
4) The Canadians and ourselves are LIKEMINDED and share ethical principles and convictions about human rights, environmental protection, peaceful coexistence, etc.
5. We bring 9/10 of the wealth in this nation with us!
a) Great Lakes shipping
b) New York and New Jersey industrial centers and finance
c) Chicago futures and options
d) ALL of the west coast Pacific rim commerce
e) California's central valley growers.
f) LION'S SHARE OF THE US PORTS AND US NAVAL POWER
g) Most of the nation's ski industry. Let's starve Nevada,
Colorado and Utah of the ski dollars.
H) Hawaii, which will give Canada a mid-Pacific shipping point
and financial presence.

6. We could VOTE FAIRLY AND CONTROL OUR OWN DESTINY.

All in favor say "Ay!"

21. What Bill Maher also said, at the very end,
that because we lost it is more important than ever that we liberals stick around.;(

I've also read, in numerous articles, that the Canadians don't want us. This one says the same thing, but also explains why we wouldn't be very happy there, anyway.

22. Just a big gated community for the cool guys....
If you check the shaded county map (more purple than red or blue), you'll see that even the most elite blue states have large reddish areas. Eastern Oregon & Washington? A good bit of California?

And there are patches of blue throughout the south.

19. Sounds interesting but 13 of our blue states got less blue this
election. If this trend is not stopped, the whole midwest save Illinois will be red.
