What will America look like in 2008 ?
1. women will be forced into back alleys and using coat hangers.

2. Social security will be neither social nor secure.

3. The gulf between rich and poor will widen even further.

4. Gay Americans will be the new enemy.

5. Fundamentalism will be now known as THE LAW.

6. Medicare will essentially be dead and if you're sick "pick yourself up by your bootstraps and pray"

7. AMERICA, once the absolute Moral Authority and beacon in the world
will never be viewed that way again.

8. All science must be cleared with the new Secretary of Moral Unrighteousness.

9. The Iraq war is really, really improving.

10. The "Founding Fathers" will now be referred to as "THE FOUNDING FATHER".

Very sad.

18. Red states of 2004 aren't going to suddenly get smarter - only
dumber. I hear that several of the blue Midwestern states, i.e. Wisconsin and Minnesota went very narrowly now for K/E but next time they might go red, too. Hmmmmm...how to address this dilemma is the problem. Another thing is that fundies have large families where most of us don't - so our numbers may grow smaller.

11. Both.
The American people will stand in line for a while then push a few buttons on some blinking machines, the media will say, Jeb won with a mandate! and everyone will shrug and go home.

It'll keep the opposition happy, apparently.

If you're talking about the United States, it won't exist.

6. Time for devolution
Basically, we're going to end up like the Soviets did in the 1990s. A bygone empire with really nasty weapons.

I say it's time to devolve. Let blue states form a federation until that is no longer viable, let the red states have the dust in the middle.

7. We need a Civil War.
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 09:51 AM by Lord Kerry
I can never imagine me feeling this way. I never could have been so angry at my country like I am now. But the more I think about this "victory", more I feel that we should throw away our pacifistic beliefs, to stop all the talk and act, not through protests and speeches because that always goes on deaf ears. But through sheer unrelenting force. Deep down I don't like the idea, but it starting to become clear. Is our cause worth dying for? I think it is. But I am just getting opinions about this idea, and not endorising any assasination.

8. At the minimum
we can expect the following to happen because Bush will get to appoint Scalia clones:

In terms of education and schools, the standards will falter. We can imagine that the wall between church and state will completely crumble, meaning that in much of the country, we can expect creationism tought. We can expect crosses and the ten commandments in public schools.

Those states with republican legislatures will ban abortion. Women will be forced to move to a few remaining states (CA, and a few in the northeast) where it will remain legal. Also, if Roe v Wade is struck down, the situation may be even worse. I see no reason why a republican congress and senate can't ban it altogether.

Social safety net programs will continue to deteriorate. Our cities and urban areas will continue to collapse. Poverty will grow.

We can also expect more outsourcing. Some companies were holding off until after the election. They should have an easy time.

I'm sure there are lots of things I haven't listed. In time we'll find out.

or sticking their head under the table and saying: "I didn't say that! he/she said it" And I'll have a leg up on you all having lived it once before in "the merriest barack of the communist camp" - and having years and years of old jokes suited for recycling. here's one now:

A:The Future

13. This might be it
http://www.buzzflash.com/contributors/04/11/con04485.html

I have to say its a tempting idea. Mixing repukes with dems as we do in the US is like mixing shit with ice cream: you don't do anything for the shit and you destroy the ice cream.

15. It might vary by city and state. States still have some powers.
I imagine one would be better off in a state with a Democratic Governor and legislature (are there any of those left?). State and local politics are more important than ever.

17. A post-apocalyptic wasteland
Or damn close to it. Peopple will freeze to death in winter (heating oil? can't afford it), our already horrendously under-funded and stocked food banks will be turning people away (who will donate? Halliburton? Doubt it, let the poor people starve), unemployment will be astronomical, and with the 4 years total lifetime limit on TANF, many families will have exhausted that by 2008 and will be http://nch.ari.net/statepolicies.html">homeless, thus it will be harder for the "poor people" to vote for the evil Dems.
