Why aren't ALL US elections automatically audited?
Even the Academy Awards has a routine audit of its voting.

Why are US elections not automatically audited? We just spent something like 4 billion dollars on the election.

I am talking about an automatic recount of large samples of votes to double-check accuracy.

Why do publically traded companies in this country have higher accounting standards than US elections? Companies have to submit to independent auditors every time they publish their earnings. IT IS THE LAW.

2. Because the powers at be want to retain the ability to manipulate them.
The elections could and should be handled as accurately and your bank accounts. In fact, the entire election could be based upon a system of SS# plus personal passwords and verify able hard copy logs.
Yes, any system could be defeated. However, we could at least make it more difficult. The current system is an immense joke. It's amazing the the American people en mass don't realize this. Of course, on the Republican side, they know and approve of that fact.

3. Excellent point! And this is why Kerry should push for investigation, imho
Even if the results, upon examination, still support Bush, we need to KNOW for sure. The opinion polls say 18% do not have confidence that the results are accurate. That is far too many people with questions for a democratic election. We need an investigation, and to have uniformity of the laws, so that we don't even need to worry about results. There has got to be some fair way to do this.
