Exit polls only ask those who voted on election day. A large number of people voted absentee. There are two reasons for this. Number one: it's more convinient. One can avoid long lines and research the candidates and ballot measures on their own time. Number 2: because of the concerns about black box voting the absentee ballot presented an alternative.
Many of those voting absentee voted weeks ahead of the general election when certain issues like the debates and the OBL tape were not newas. Likewise many states allowed early voting.
8. Optical scanner results can be changed as well.
All these ballots in the end are tabulated using a PC. That's when someone can change the results. Just because you have a paper trail doesn't mean that the results are valid.
