to tell him to amend S2437 to include not only a voter-verified paper ballot, but also mandatory random audits to verify the vote. Like this:

Please continue to work for Verified Voting and amend S2437 to include mandatory random audits to verify the vote. The paper ballot alone is not enough. It is only a placebo without statistically significant random auditing of at least 5% of all precincts.

If you do not find Republican support for this, please bring it to the attention of the media as soon as possible by naming names. (I.e., Frist, Lott, DeLay, Hastert, Ney or even Ensign!)

Although it need not be politicized, this is an issue that can unite the Deomcratic party better than apple pie and show the People who is really for democracy and who isn't. Please take advantage of this, but more importantly, please get this legislation passed.

I've used this before and it's great. I hope that Reid soon has a category called "Election Issues." We'll be well on our way when that shows up.

Here's my missive:

Dear Majority Leader Reid:

Thank you very much for debating with Sen. Boxer on her 1/6/05 challenge to the Ohio electors.

I am a life-long Democrat who is happy to see you as majority leader. I am writing to urge you to have all Democrats support verifiable voting in 2006 and beyond. This needs to include:
--a paper receipt retained in voting places for recounts;
--open access by neutral experts to source code and the actual machines used to take votes and to those central computers used to tally votes;
--equal access for urban, suburban, and rural Americans to the same efficiency of voting (no more 9 hour lines);
--a ban on selling/using voting machines from companies with political affiliations or which make political contributions.

We will never win another national election without these measures at least.

Very best wishes to you as Minority Leader and I hope in 2006, that will change to Majority!

If I may recommend, consider running this again with a more specific title. The email change probably is not of concern but your recommended changes to S2437 are VERY important.
