The GOP in Washinton State are still at it!
GOP seeks criminal records

By David Postman
Seattle Times chief political reporter

OLYMPIA — Republicans want a copy of the state's criminal-records database to compare it with the names of the nearly 3 million people who voted in the governor's race, as party attorneys search for felons who cast illegal ballots.

Yesterday, attorneys for Dino Rossi and the Republican Party asked the State Patrol for an electronic copy of that database, the Washington State Identification System. The list contains more than 1.2 million records. Republicans are hoping to do a quicker and less expensive search than what is available to the general public.

The records include names, birth dates, charges and outcomes of the cases, including felonies and some misdemeanors. Republicans are looking for felons because felons are not allowed to vote unless their voting rights have been restored.

The move is part of Rossi's legal challenge to the election of Democrat Christine Gregoire, who was sworn in as governor Wednesday. Rossi, who lost the final recount by 129 votes, filed suit last week in Chelan County Superior Court asking that the election be thrown out and a new one held.

2. This is all good for the Democrats.
Someone needs to let these Republicans know that this could lead to fair elections all over the country.

4. Also...
We need to help DUers understand that this could lead to fair elections all over the country.

Let the Repubs put the whole thing under a magnifying glass.

If we can't take that, we're BS.

6. Fair elections?
It will be the end of the world as we know it! The thin end of the wedge. A return to legitimate democracy. In short, republican political suicide.

What are they thinking?

7. Exactly
Rossi has a legitimate beef about the vote. King County in particular had a lot of irregularities. For example feeding provisional ballots into a machine to be counted before those ballots were verified to see if they were legitimate.

I would like to see a full investigation, not the usual white wash. It could lead to some reforms.

10. That's true about the provisional ballots . . .
. . . some WERE fed into the tabulating machine without being canvassed first. It is important to point out, I think, that it happened because the machine was placed in an accessible location and the people feeding the ballots into it without the prior examination were not election officials or employees, but may have been the voters themselves - or mebbe Rossi operatives. <snerk> I would like to know why the tabulator was in such an un-secure location in the room. If there was no alternative, why was there no election staffer standing guard on the thing?! . . . or maybe I'm just too picky.

3. Dino Rossi is a soreloserman who has to understand that EVERY...
vote was counted. Rossi cannot just demand that we throwout some votes so that he can win, that would be undemocratic.

5. Dino Rossi is an ass
Christine Gregoire won and Rossi needs to just get over it. Gregoire won the Governors race. Why does Rossi want to keep contesting this? Sore looserman.

8. I don't understand why the GOP is so concerned...
...about felons voting when they hire felons with mulitple convictions in e-fraud to design and implement their voting software.

We must push forward this message.

9. Oh for Pete's sake. And we still have Republicans calling
us sore losers when all we want is transparent elections? That's rich!
