They better pray they don't get caught alone in a dark alley with a bunch of *real* Americans.

This is making me ill.

4. If I remember last time clearly...
That amen-in-num should go on for pretty much four or so
years. It's a tradition.

3. Well, seeing as they're hypocrites,
they'll pray as the hypocrites do. Loudly, often, and with as big an audience as possible.

At least that's the opinion of Jesus as stated in the Bible..

Republicans need to be defeated with votes, not fists.

They deserve incarceration.

11. I pray too
I pray too. But my prayers weren't answered. In His wisdom, God chose not to answer my prayer. If He had done so Kerry would be in the White House right now.

We have got to realize that the true Christian ideal is in line with what we progressives believe and practice, not what the neocons do.

If we are going to win elections in the future we have got to get through to people of faith so that they will realize that our ideals are in line with theirs. I bet you that if He were here right now Jesus would be a Democrat.

12. I think all the prayer is to tick off Newdow...
It probably classifies as torture for the poor guy...
I don't think they would have prayed so much if Newdow didn't throw a fit.

16. Once there is a broad recognition that religion is delusional thinking ...
We might get a leader who isn't delusional.

18. Then we will never be in power again
We have to face it. The vast majority of Americans are religious. If we bash religion we will never get back in power. We need to embrace religion and get out the message that our values about social justice are in tune with the true spirit of religion, whereas Bush's warmongering is more in line with the devil than with God.

19. I agree with you, and I am an atheist.
By and large religion annoys me.

It took years to realize that I was not actually annoyed by the religion, but by those who would use religion as a reason for all kinds of inhumanity and injustice practiced upon others.

But, I have finally come to realize exactly what you are saying -- the basic tenets of most religions, and definitely Christianity, is not one of hatred and fear-mongering, but one of peace, love and brotherhood.

I may not believe Jesus was the messiah, but I can still have respect for the gentle words of communitarian love from a wise rabbi in 1st century Palestine.

And you are right, most people in this country are religious, and we are more likely to make an impact on their political thinking if we embrace that fact and advocate that it is the Democrats who more closely follow the teachings of Jesus, then I think we will get farther with the folks in the fly-over states.

That being said, I am SO tired of all the televised praying today. Sheesh.

Why is prayed allowed at these events, but outlawed in our schools and school events?
