On Randi's show NH recount is on, On Olbermann, it's not, which is it?
On Randi's show, Andy from bbv.org said the NH recount is on. On Olbermann, according to his report, it was rejected. So, I'm confused. Does anybody know?

10. it's neither
it's most likely to be on (based on a guess by me)... the story that it's off is not incorerct either. Nader missed the chck, but it will likely evenually be overlooked by the NH government

2. I'm wondering, too.
She said something at the end of her show that made me think it was off. Anybody know for sure? We are getting conflicting information.

5. Nader didn't give a check w/ the recount request.
There is precident to allow him to do the recount anyway, but it is now up to politicos in the state.

7. MelissaB, I think it's off because Nader didn't include the $80k check
with his request for a recount. I think that's what the problem is.

11. I think it was said he sent a fax of the check at the last minute, but
the fax jammed. Two faxes sent - one was the request, the second was the copy of the check ($80,000) - the second didn't make the deadline?

30. She said someone in another recent election filed a petition for a recount
without the check, and the recount was allowed. So that was a precedent for letting Nader's complaint proceed. Barring any other legalities, it looks like there will be a recount in NH.

3. Olberman strictly mentioned Nader -
wasn't the one accepted requested by someone else? I seem to recall reading something along those lines? Anyone?

6. I understand...
...that there was a check Nader was supposed to fax with the documents, but it got jammed in the fax machine. But there has been precedents for this -- in one of the previous elections, the check was not submitted before the deadline and supplied later, and they still went ahead with the recount.

9. NH
Whose in charge in NH? I know they voted for Kerry and almost voted for Gore in 2000 but isn't it a pretty conservative state? At least compared to Vermont and the rest of New England?

The recount as of last count is on except that Naders request was turned down because he didn't include the filing fee.

13. If machines are 'fixed'
the vote will not change.....how will they know if the machines are correct if they don't have a paper count of the people to compare?

14. New Hampshire has paper ballots, I think.
Because they added up on a central tabulator (PC) there can be fraud.

23. In regard to ballots
I just received an email from a friend who can't post here, but wanted you to know they

"DO use paper ballots here and after
we fill them out we insert them into a counting machine. When the machine gets filled, the ballots are put into locked metal boxes. When the polls are closed, the boxes are brought to City Hall where they are kept in case they're needed for a recount. The entire process was explained to me when I did Poll Checking last week."

This if from Joanne who posts on JREGrassroots

20. Since I've been talking directly to everyone involved all day ...
I can answer the question definitively.

A. The source of the article (not the writer) was the assistant AG, who is NOT in the loop, but who tried to hijack it without the knowledge of the SoS or ASoS who have the authority to approve/disapprove. In fact, the quote attributed to the SoS (Gardner) was incorrect; he was never interviewed at all. All we can figure out is that the asst. AG creep told the reporter that he was relaying the SoS's words.

2. The SoS has softened up all the requirements because our people on the ground (National Ballot Integrity Project and Democracy for NH) have been working with them for literally months and have gotten very much on their good side.

3. Nader is willing, but required guarantees that he wouldn't be left holding the bag. We set up an escrow account for that purpose today and will fund it tomorrow. Nader has been notified by our attorney of the escrow.

4. Our attorney (BBV and NBIP's) is setting up a legal fund to take contributions and disburse funds to candidates/citizens groups for any and all recounts. As soon as the paperwork is done (tomorrow hopefully) he'll set up a bank account and a paypal account and it will be announced (probably by Andy) on Air America, DU, and at all the blogs. We'll also be going to the big organizations to request that they blast the fund info to their members.

5. The SoS is being pretty damn patient because he understands that this is citizen-initiated and funded action, and not a Nader exercise in self-aggrandization.

This is the all the latest info as of close of business today, Monday.

26. NH recount
I just looked at the official NH state website and there is not a thing mentioning a recount. They have election returns published for every county and a google search showed no stories about a recount. I think this was a vain hope.

33. Just possibly, if there is fraud discovered
in New Hampshire, that means a federal law is broken, then the federal government would have to demand a recount in all the states that use those same kinds of machines to determine if there was any other hacking done.
This would take the monetary burden off the candidates and put the burden of proof that the machines are "clean" of hacking on the government, because a federal election demands an honest election.
