....was lit' on July 16, 1973, when the White House staff person, Alexander Butterfield, revealed 'the tapes' existed -- the fact that all conversations in Tricky's office were secretly recorded.

By the way, a small piece of trivia -- George Bush, then Chairman of the RNC, was the first to speak, after Gerald Ford, in the fateful cabinet meeting, in which Tricky was told to resign.

Daddy Bush will probably need to be giving his son that advice sometime real soon now. Because today W's "Watergate" just got appointed AG. And, we don't need secret tapes to take all of them down -- we already have all the documentation we need in the Congressional Record. And those who voted for torture boy are now "collaborators."

Peace.

6. hmmm, what i remember
they calculated something close to 300 days as the starting number (200 something, or was it 500 something?) and i'm thinking 174 was a number taken from the countdown - not significant in itself.

10. well, if I were going to pick someone who's
most vulnerable to impeachment proceedings, of this current bunch, Cheney might be further up on the list than W, in terms of who would go first.
Eerie parallel to Watergate, too, if you recall: they got Agnew first.
174 days wouldn't be the time from January 1973 to August 1974--that would be more days. 365 from Jan '73-Jan '74, plus # of days from Jan '74 to 8/74.
