Florida can be recounted! Irregularities occurred in OPTI-SCAN Counties!

So how do we proceed? How do WE get a recount in Florida? Do we have to appeal to Kerry, or can we "go it alone" ?

1. Losing candidate needs to request a recount.
Nader run in Florida. He requested recount in New Hampshire, but didn't send a check, so I don't think that is going anywhere. What about Florida?
But that probably is going to cost a lot more. I also don't know if the deadline is already passed.

2. Can't a certain number of citizens demand it?

4. I think that's how it works in Ohio, but not sure...may depend on state
constitution. Hop into Fla in the State forums, someone is bound to be working on it!

7. Nader faxed a check that got stuck in fax machine. This was ok
two years ago when it happened to another candidate. The Green and Libertarian are with us on counting all the votes correctly.

This from another post from a person NBIPAD:

2. The SoS has softened up all the requirements because our people on the ground (National Ballot Integrity Project and Democracy for NH) have been working with them for literally months and have gotten very much on their good side.

3. Nader is willing, but required guarantees that he wouldn't be left holding the bag. We set up an escrow account for that purpose today and will fund it tomorrow. Nader has been notified by our attorney of the escrow.

4. Our attorney (BBV and NBIP's) is setting up a legal fund to take contributions and disburse funds to candidates/citizens groups for any and all recounts. As soon as the paperwork is done (tomorrow hopefully) he'll set up a bank account and a paypal account and it will be announced (probably by Andy) on Air America, DU, and at all the blogs. We'll also be going to the big organizations to request that they blast the fund info to their members.

5. The SoS is being pretty damn patient because he understands that this is citizen-initiated and funded action, and not a Nader exercise in self-aggrandization.

8. That's my post ... heddafoil
And it's the absolute truth up to the minute. Florida will be challenged as will Ohio as well.

10. Wow that is great news. Congratulations!
So many of us have been following this with baited breath.
Do you really think there's any chance of cleaning up the numbers enough so that Kerry will actually get FL or Ohio though? It seems like *'s margin is too great to be breached...

5. Careful on the irregularities
Here's a thread I started that addresses the rural counties - there is consistency in these counties from 2000 to 2004, though as Eloriel pointed out the 2000 numbers may have been skewed as well. Regardless, I think we need to operate on a different premise - not that those counties were flipped, but that they were skimmed heavily. Here are the basics:

5 counties FLIPPED from Gore (2000) to Bush (2004) (0 went from Bush to Kerry)
(Flagler, Hernando, Osceola, Pasco, Pinellas)

5 counties Kerry had FEWER votes than Gore (0 for Bush)
(Baker, Calhoun, Hardee, Holmes, Union)

64 counties Bush 2004 had HIGHER % of votes than Bush 2000
(not Collier, Gadsden, Leon)

57 counties Kerry had LOWER % of votes than Gore 2000
(not Alachua, Collier, Duval, Gadsden, Hamilton, Hendry, Jefferson, Leon, Miami-Dade, Monroe)

(note - some of these numbers differ from the thread because I've used updated numbers from the Florida election site)

11. Cuahoga voted using punch cards, so there will be a paper trail.

6. Find Edwards. As a candidate, Edwards can demand recount of errors.
