Were paper ballots available in all states with electronic voting?
I know this question sounds weird, but when I was standing in line to vote in California I saw a woman go to a separate booth with a paper ballot. Everyone else in line, including me, voted touchscreen with an ATM type card. At the time, I had just enough trust in electronic voting not to ask for a paper ballot too, and, hey, I'm in California. Even * wouldn't be stupid enough to rig us, would he?

Was this option available everywhere? I've asked on a few threads, but no one's answered yet. You see, if paper ballots are available everywhere, WE SHOULD ALL USE THEM!!!

2. No.
I voted on a paperless voting machine in Franklin county, OH, and there was no paper ballots anywhere.
Are you even sure the woman you saw didn't vote using a provisional ballot?

5. I guess you could be right.
It was on some kind of a long card and she was marking answers with a
pencil, not a hole punch. Of course I couldn't exactly peek over her shoulder, nosy as I can be sometimes.:-)

7. In CA paper ballots were to be made available to voters if they
requested them. My impression was that they weren't advertising that fact, however.

4. In the CA voting book
it said, way in the back, that all California voters had a right to obtain a paper ballot at any voting place. Problem is, it was kind of buried in the book and they weren't telling people unless they asked.
I don't know about other states. I kind of think they didn't have that option.

9. Great!
Thanks for the info. It seems to me we could ensure the validity of the next election just by requiring this option in all precincts in the country. If they don't want to publicize it, we can publicize it ourselves. All Dems and progressives ask for the paper ballot! Too simple?

8. Votes could have been siphoned off
in California wherever opti-scan machines were. Those are the kind that seem to be in play where there are irregularities. Since California was pretty sure to be a blue state, they would never have missed a bunch of Kerry votes that became Bush votes. That would make a larger margin of win for Bush.
