I now fully accept that Bush won the election fair and square, because...
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 03:39 AM by TruthIsAll
I was wrong in assuming that the '96 and '00 final exit polls were the real exit polls. I didn't realize they were just the final, cooked versions, "weighted" to match the vote count.

Yes, Bush really did win the votes of all those final 613 National Exit Poll respondents who were added to the initial, "raw" 13,047-respondent poll (shown on the WP site). This "raw" poll had Kerry winning by 51-48%, therefore it must have been wrong, and that's why it was weighted to match the vote count.

The true, final, accurate 13,660-respondent National Exit Poll is displayed on CNN's site. It is truly accurate (I must repeat myself) because it was "weighted" to the actual, recorded vote count. And we all know that the actual, recorded vote count was 100% accurate in this election, just as has been in all prior elections and shall be in all future elections. That's why the Republicans want to do away with all exit polls, since they are totally redundant; we all know the vote counts are always 100% accurate.

I agree with this sentiment. Why continue to pay Mitofky et al for redundant exit poll data? No one cares about voter demographics. They only want to know what time Fox or CNN will call the election.

But I digress.

And yes, I was deluded in thinking that the "weighted" poll was the real exit poll, the one that was not yet cooked. Anyway, I now realize that the final, "weighted", cooked exit polls must be exactly correct, since they adjust the initial "raw" data to the "pristine" vote count, which of course we know is always 100% accurate. That is especially true now that we have fancy new Diebold/ES&S touchscreen computers to go with the old, reliable punch card/lever machines and those fool-proof opti-scams..um.. optical scanners.

And I also now realize that the original "raw", unadjusted exit poll data is very dirty, indeed. It should never be used by the average person who might get the wrong impression that it's correct. It also would give the wrong impression that Kerry actually won the election.

You see, it's clear that the vote count must be 100% accurate, because the final exit poll proves it. And the final exit poll is also extremely accurate, because the vote count proves it.

It's all very clear to me now.

So let's do away with the exit polls, as the Republicans are suggesting. Who needs them, anyway?

After all, the final exit poll will always confirm the actual vote count. And the vote count is always accurate, since all the votes are always counted. Therefore, so must the final, "weighted" exit poll be very accurate.

And we all know that Brutus is an honorable man.

It all makes eminent sense to me now.

All that exit poll probability analysis was a complete waste of time since the original exit polls were wrong and the vote counts were right. The probability of that is obviously 100%.

Please excuse me.
My head is spinning.
I'm through the looking glass, people.

I have to go now.

20. Yes, clearly the Repuke responders were shy
just as all the Repukes we see on TV are introverted, retiring people. Of course, in all pre-Bush elections, Repukes were outspoken extroverts, proud of their choice. They just suddenly changed personalities in 2000. Right.

11. It was so silly of you to doubt the Bush "elites" honesty ever!
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 06:37 AM by tommcintyre
Why would they cheat? I mean, if you are a millionaire, and you gave the Bush re-election campaign a measly $100k, just the tax windfall will represent several million return on investment. And if you are among the handful of companies that now own almost ALL the MSM, why would you cover-up the biggest theft in history - just so you could consolidate even further, and get even more rich and powerful? Naw, I just don't buy it.

And the fact that the people who both make those wonderful machines that conveniently have no hard copy record, AND count most of the votes in this country, professed to re-elect Bush, AND donate lots money to him? Why should that make anyone doubt the legitimacy of this election?

I could go on and on with equally frivolous augments as to why any reasonable and sane person would at least reasonably doubt the validity of the election; but why bother, GEORGE W. BUSH WON FAIR AND SQUARE! <Afterall, so many opinion-makers in both the DEM and Repub parties have told us so - it MUST be true, right? So why in the hell do at least 30% of the voters still have doubts?>

There I said it - now lock me up before I... No, on second thought, just sign me up to be the average major politician of EITHER OF THE TWO DOMINANT POLITICAL PARTIES and I will fit right in.

Now may I have another glass of koolaid please? Haven't I earned it?

I'm glad I got that out of my system. :puke:

EDIT: Hey TIA. Was this supposed to be some sort of peverted therapy or something?

Well... if it was, it sure as hell didn't work! I'M MAD AS HELL, AND MORE DETERMINED THAN EVER TO HELP UNCOVER THOSE THIEVING BASTARDS!

THEY STOLE OUR COUNTRY, AND WE WANT IT BACK!

17. Conspiracy
Behind the shoddy argument is the fact that- for our own good- they can't give us the 'real" explanation. It would be dangerous to our democracy even to suspect the real reason and dangerous to the republican party.

In fact they are so 100 pure and honest they put on a show of cheating and appearance of theft to mask their vulnerable honesty while the subtle Dems rig all the exit polls and wear sheep's clothing. If ever the Bush supporters were to suspect that their guys were not ruthless power geniuses they would leave those pansy saints faking "toughness" and go to the wily Dems.

It is not safe for the public to know.

19.  Conversing with a repub friend of mine who knows they stole the votes
and he knows I know they stole the votes... He forgot for a second that I knew in a conversation referring to the Lt gov race that then candidate Perry stole from rightful winner John Sharp. My response was "not if they counted the votes" and his comeback was "There are some things more important than counting the votes."
It underscores the belief in rightful oligarchy that some of these folks have. Their guys sitting in a room making decisions playing Risk with the world is better than our folks doing it.
Scary stuff..Democracy is just face paint which is what they want to export.

We need to get this kind of issue out on the table.

29. Democracy is a necessary illusion they must portray...
to keep the masses happy. There is no way they are going to willingly turn over the running of this country to the common people! This is not new. That's the real reason the framers of the constitution created the Electoral College. (The masses vote, the elites decide.)

So we are fighting a battle to finally wrest away the power from the few, and put it where it rightfully belongs - in the hands of the people.

Ah,TIA, it's so much easier now, isn't it? ;)

"He was walking down the white-tiled corridor, with the feeling of walking in sunlight, and an armed guard at his back. The longhoped-for bullet was entering his brain.

He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother." --George Orwell, 1984
