NC March 28th BBV Panel Discussion, David Allen, Justin Moore
Like we said before, David Allen (also Justin Moore, Chuck Herrin) have been busting their butts fighting to get rid of paperless voting in North Carolina. They have been on a veritable "spaghetti circuit", speaking at public forums around the state.

Our BBV critics are going to the heart of paperless voting next, in Guilford County NC, home of 1,186 paperless touchscreen machines, the one with the central tabulator that counts backwards. The Guilford County Election Director has fought paper ballots tooth nail and claw, so we take the battle there next:

Will your vote count? Did the computer eat your vote?
"NC has the worst election problem in the country right now." -- Computer scientist Dr. David L. Dill of Stanford University, about the votes lost in Carteret County. November 11, 2004.

"A Florida-style nightmare has unfolded in North Carolina in the days since Election Day, with thousands of votes missing and the outcome of two statewide races still up in the air." -- AP Newswire, Nov 13

"There are always glitches" - Deputy Director for Administration of the N.C. BOE Johnnie McLean - November 4, 2004
Find out why our election system in North Carolina is broken, and what computer scientists say we need to do about it:

Notice of Event:
Black Box Voting Public Forum in Greensboro

Date: Monday, March 28, 2005
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Event Location: Unitarian Universalist Church of Greensboro

Street: 5603 Hilltop Road (Corner of Hilltop and Guilford College Roads)
City and State: Greensboro, North Carolina

The panel will provide a presentation illustrating actual and potential failures of voting technology in North Carolina, followed by questions and answers. Panelists will also discuss the Public Confidence in Elections Bill, which is now before the North Carolina General Assembly. The bill would mandate voter verified paper ballots for each vote, as well as other safeguards to insure every vote is accurately recorded and counted. Successful methods for lobbying our legislators will be shared.
Sponsoring the forum are the North Carolina Coalition for Verified Voting and the Social Action Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greensboro.

The panel consists of:

David Allen of High Point, a ssystems engineer who served on the North Carolina Legislative appointed Joint Select Committee on Electronic Voting, also published the free e book - "Black Box Voting - Ballot Tampering in the 21st Century.”

Justin Moore of Durham, a computer scientist and adviser to the North Carolina Joint Select Committee on Electronic Voting, member of the National Committee for Voting Integrity,Moore recently helped edit and contribute to the written testimony submitted to the U.S. Election Assistance Committee.

Joseph Waymack, activist in Virginia and North Carolina for the last 8 years, ran numerous local political campaigns. He now serves on the Steering Committee of "For All NC" and has been very active in the effort to pass meaningful election reform in North Carolina. He will discuss the current lobbying strategy and provide attendees with various opportunities to become part of the solution.

We do not have another BBV panel scheduled in the near future.
