Update: 11:34 p.m. A special prosecutor dropped all charges today against Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and three others who had been indicted for allegedly violating a state law that prohibits payments for collection of absentee ballots, a former Democratic Party leader with knowledge of the case said.

Dyer, a Democrat who had been suspended by Republican Gov. Jeb Bush when the charges were announced March 11, will be automatically reinstated as mayor with dismissal of the indictment. The decision also means there will be no May 3 special election to choose a temporary replacement.

The decision to drop the case was confirmed to The Associated Press by Bob Poe, former chairman of the Florida Democratic Party, who had spoken to Dyer. Prosecutors and lawyers involved in the case did not immediately return phone calls Wednesday, but prosecutors had scheduled a press conference for later Wednesday to make an announcement about the case. -- Associated Press

The special prosecutor who brought a case against ousted Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and three others for violating state election law will dismiss all the charges this morning, according to attorneys involved.

2. Maybe the witch hunt
was getting to close to the Repugs? Ezzie Thomas worked for Mel Martinez and Glenda Hood before he went on to setting up Dyer.

3. that would be my guess -- that they did the same thing with Thomas
and the microscope put on them too... but I wonder how Dyers' constituents feel about all of this -- if they really know the whole story, if they support him or want him out of there...

4. charges dropped, but only in exchange for
"None of them were required to admit guilt. Under an agreement with the state attorney, each must pay $500 to defray the cost of the state investigation and agree not to pay or be paid to collect ballots until a court or the Legislature reviews the specific law in question."

What the prosecutor argued was an "illegal practice" has ended.

The voting companies are in the same business, collecting e-ballots and routing them to the e-ballot box (maybe) on behalf of the voter, without postage.

5. Good point LandShark.
You're right about the law and its in violation of sunshine laws.....

That special prosecutor might wake up and start digging in to Tom Feeney, he's the one in Florida close to the scam with Jeb Bush. They probably set Dyer up to send them on a paper chase...
