Electronic Voting Forum in Newtown, CT - 4/27/05
TrueVote CT is hosting a forum on electronic voting newt Wednesday. Below is the information that I am distributing around CT and if anyone on this board is in the area please stop by. After the forum we will be taping a 25 minute uninterrupted radio spot that will appear on Sunday morning public affairs shows on 99.1 WPLR and 99.9 STAR FM. I have been told that it will run in one of next 2 or 3 Sundays but was not given a firm date. Hope to see some of you there and please pass this information on to anyone you know in CT. Thanks to everyone for your help and support.

DEMOCRACY DEMANDS AN ACCURATE VOTE COUNT!

Voting on paperless DREs or touchscreen voting machines is analogous to dictating your vote to a scribe without being able to review what the scribe has written.

Voting on paperless DREs is similar to never balancing your checking account and trusting the bank to maintain an accurate balance

Most people would never accept either of these scenarios yet many of these same people have no objection to voting on paperless DRE voting machines.

Many voting groups and people in all parts of the country are fighting against the use of paperless touchscreen voting machines but CT will likely end up with DREs unless the citizens of CT express their objections to these voting systems.

The public is invited to attend an Electronic Voting Forum on April 27, 2005 at Edmond Town Hall in Newtown, CT at 7:30 PM. The documentary “Invisible Ballots” will be shown and Michael Fischer, a computer scientist from Yale University will give a presentation and take questions.

The forum will address SB55, which requires an “individual, permanent, paper record” for each individual’s ballot choices and what needs to be done to get this bill passed. In addition, we will discuss the current RFP from the state of CT for DRE machines. The RFP does not include an option to purchase Optical Scan voting systems, which are more reliable, more auditable and less expensive than DREs.
