I can't believe it was 84 just three days ago. We're supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow over the weekend and the long range forecast is mostly in the 50s.

75. Beware the bad weather on the way
It was beautiful here until today -- 60s, 70s and 80s. Today it was in the 50s with rain and the weekend is supposed to only be in the 40s with rain and snow. I have to cover up the few annuals I broke down and planted last weekend.

85. Well, I checked the 10-day forecast for Cambridge just now and it's
looking mild, wet and springlike. No snow or freezes predicted.

Time to quit making excuses and start planting between the showers. The ground should be good and moist. A lot of the plants in my herb garden plus the stawberries and bulb flowers of different kinds are up out of the ground and going strong. No buds on the tulips yet.

105. The tulips and daffs around here peaked at the beginning of the week
Some of the spring blooming trees have already bloomed and turned green. We had no rain the first two weeks of April. It's been a backwards, bizarre month. The second half is going to be what the first half usually is and vice versa. I switched my clothes last weekend and took my coats to storage and bought several pairs of open-toes shoes. Now I may have to go back to wearing boots. I guess I jumped the gun a bit.

115. Actually, you may have cause and effect reversed!
Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 08:14 PM by Nothing Without Hope
Taking your coats to storage and buying open-toed shoes was just ASKING for trouble, like leaving your umbrella home asks for rain.

You know it's just a temporary setback, but it's disconcerting when you think you're DONE with all of that wintry stuff and WHAM! Here in the Boston area I recall a freak snowstorm in May - I think it was May 9 -- years ago. It was something like 4 inches, very fast. So strange to see all the white on the green. It melted quickly, but it sure left a lasting impression!

I need to change over from the soft, warm flannel sheets of winter to the smooth, fresh-feeling fine cotton ones of summer. Such a difference! And it seems like every year when I do that, the weather changes get set back just like yours did. So I'm waiting a bit longer, trying to fake Mother Nature out this time.

10. Blue update - not so good
Updates: Blue is in the doggie hospital. :(
Doc thinks he has Blasomycosis - a fungal infection of the lungs - but can be treated with heavy-duty antibiotics and a dyuretic. He's not charging me for keeping him tonight, though.
The disease can cause an enlarged heart (which he has, but tested negative for heart worms), runny nose (has that), mucus build up (yep... that's what he's been throwing up) and inability to stand for long (bingo). He'll start treatment tonight and then we'll go from there.
Don't know the final cost for all this - but I'm sure it won't be pretty.

Job: Interviewed today for two different positions with the company. Didn't really like the woman... don't know how that will work. However, I won't know anything until Monday or Tuesday, anyway. I think they've decided not to do a temp, but just to hire. Dunno. Too worried about Blue to care, but know I need a job.

14. Hi everybody,
hope everyone had a good day. Might have to read through my typos tonight as I am beyond tired. Gizmo came thru surgery ok but has lots of swollen lymph nodes that couldn't be remove, though some were taken for a biopsy. He won't be home until tomorrow though. Will get test results back in a week. Vet does think he will be able to treat him with medication.

For Keith that actually showed up a whole 5 days.

38. I know the feeling
since I am Gizmo less tonight too, yelled at the vet cause I dropped him off at 9 and the vet called at 7 pm, I was starting to worry he didn't make it. The vet did say he gets the awful calls out of the way first so no news is good news. They had an emergency come in before he could call. Can't blame him there and he is the one talks to you , not the techs or anyone else.

for the SPCA and rescues. Took me 4 years to find a vet that was knowledgeable about ferrets, so it was either just in time or the ferrets realized they could get sick now. He also does alot for www.frisky.org and it is always fun when you are there and they bring the primates in for baby shots.

last night about how KO probably has dreams that he goes on the air and then discovers he's naked and in a denigrating position as a result?

Think a moment. If he *did* ever accidentally show up naked, would we be complaining? Would it be so denigrating and humiliating to him? Really?

I mean, sheesh, we even get the hots for the damn potbelly.

Ratings would probably go through the roof. And that without loofahs or falafels.

118. If you ever look at registries of sex offenders
on the Web, they will tell you exactly why each person was listed there so you can determine at your own discretion whether the person is a danger as you see it or not.

Example: if you have a 3-year-old girl, you might not be so concerned about a guy who is on the list because he's 18 and he had a 15-year-old girlfriend he had sex with and got arrested for statutory.

Granted, if you have a 15-year-old girl, you may be more concerned. But at least you can tell the difference because you know what got them put up there.

Jumping to conclusions is always dangerous.

Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 09:59 PM by Gogi
years ago in the St. Louis Metro area. A sex offender moved and a group helping mentally retarded men bought the house. These yahoos decided they wanted to beat up someone so they looked at the incorrect entry on the registry, went to house and jumped one of the residents while
he was in the back yard. Poor man had the mental capacity of a five year old. The yahoos who put up those signs did it out of pure maliciousness and I doubt they're the least bit remorseful. People like that don't consider the disabled as good as themselves and don't care how their actions affect disabled people or their families.
Sorry for the downer post but I've had to deal with yahoos like this myself.

On the one hand, she's 5 years old and a trained principal should be able to control her; however, in our litigeous society, the principal might have been concerned that the school would get sued if she held her down.

with the what-ifs. Can't sleep well yet. But oh. my. god. what MIGHT have happened so easily. Everyone who saw the accident, the car, and her minimal injuries was astonished that she is alive. I mean, T-boned by the biggest SUV on the market (she told me, she noticed the model) in a high-speed multicar collision on a CA highway! And she walked away from it.

So I'm not sleeping and am shaky about it. Just nervous aftershocks about what might have happened. But it didn't.

I'm betting some of the crowd of whackjobs outside the Schiavo's hospice were not local. That was a staged event, and so was the news photography of it. I heard that there were really a lot fewer people than those carefully angled news photos seemed to indicate. It looked like throngs, but it was really an untidy little rabble. And probably a good number of them came from out of state. The neocons and their media buddies tried to make it look like a mighty movement, and they made their big plays, but the real audience didn't buy it.

Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 08:00 PM by CC
Not this time but it is his favorite line.

edited to add, Mom, you do know that about middle school you will be called to the office often because he will just have to correct his teachers when they give misinformation in Social Studies don't ya? (Speaking from experience here)

100. Middle school? He already has.
Told the teacher when they were learning about Thanksgiving that those were NOT Indians. "Indians live in India. Those people are NATIVE AMERICANS."

112. Good job kiddo
When Beau was right my answer to them was always "So he is suppose to not correct a person when they are giving out misinformation?" Oh and "why are the teachers talking politics without being willing to hear differing opinions.?"

Ummm and depending on the person some would rather be called by their tribe name instead of either. I could really get Ramzey in trouble and have him go that far.

145. Good for him! What a great start in social insight that kid has had
I think we should consider a thread in the clubhouse for photos of kids and other precious family members. I would hope you would post that one of Clark teaching Ramzey to salute, for example. Then we can go enjoy it when we like.

127. I think a campaign needs to be conducted
to BRING BACK THE NEWS QUIZ!

I mean, to not even *mention* it...I sensed that was going to be the case from the start what with no solicitation of questions, and no promos at all for it tonight, and the fact that he was still on the #3 story at 8:33...he runs through the top five stories much quicker on a News Quiz night...but still, disappointing!

Okay, so maybe *Monica's* on vacay or sick today...but at least SAY SO, man!!!! Don't leave us hangin'!!!!

There must be a concerted effort to bring News Quiz back.

Only one thing makes me happy about all this. I was afraid that after deciding Keef needed punishment for skipping out on Friday and the News Quiz, I would have to release him from his "Big House arrest" after all. But it appears I do not. To do the Friday show and not the News Quiz? I'm afraid I will have to detain you a while longer, young man. Now where are those handcuffs they used on the poor 5-year-old?

Besides which, it doesn't sound like something they would just do and not tell anyone. They have a better rapport with their audience than that.

156. So, was it a good show?
We caught the last part, with the 5-yr-old. The consensus here was that somebody's parents have not been doing their job. Not a lot of sympathy when a kid gets that out of control.

Mom & Dad are chuckling over "Olbermann." (yes, the name IS that close!)

Y'all are too tame when I'm not around.

157. NATURE PHOTO OF THE DAY This one is from Basque country in Spain
I love the quality of the light and the colors. This is another example of the surprisingly common phenomenon of "blocking the path to paradise" with that big tree and stump right in front of the viewer, but that is quibbling when there are so many other things to admire in this image. As a pleasant meditative exercise, you might think how the trees might be rearranged a bit to make it look more possible to enter the image and wander freely. It's the beginning of the process that a painter would go through in evolving an image that resonates most powerfully.
